    Season's Greetings all:

This is my week off, but I wanted to drop a line because I got a call this afternoon from Asus and they let me know they would be importing two W2p models in Q1 of 2007. The current model which just came in a couple weeks ago will continue to be sold as most people don't need or can afford this other model. After a handful of people complained to me, I put in a request to Asus. The supply will be limited because those that can afford the current model are few and this higher end model will have even fewer buyers. Asus says generically "Early Q1", so my bet is the end of January at best... so let's say it's a month away.

    W2PB-7K003M
    $2,499.00 USD
    WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)
8x Super Multi Slot Load DVD-RW

    W2PB-7M005M
    $2,799.00 USD
    WUXGA (1920 x 1200)
    1 x HD-DVD

I know I esitmated this model to be about $600 more initially, if Asus would even bring it in, but Asus is apparently taking a hit when it comes to their profit on this particular version of of the series. It's the first truly high-def notebook which can play true HD through an above true HD screen, as well as output true HD and 7.1 channel surround through it's HDMI out port. For another $300, it's a steal, because the HD-DVD drive itself is supposedly an $800 drive and in super limited supply ($500 more than 8x SM DVD-RW) and the WUXGA screen is another $100 over the WSXGA+ -- on top of being in super limited supply as well. We'll probably be able to count the supply of these for the first couple months on our hands and feet, but for those that were looking to import this version, this is should come as great news.
