I'm looking at picking up one of the new ASUS W2PB-7M005C laptops and was really hoping that someone that has one could chime in and give a detailed review of one. I've read a few, but would really like to hear more from owners.

Anyway, any additional views would be of great help. It definitely looks like a nice machine, the graphics power lacks a little, but overall a great package.

    Anyone?

I owned the W2V which was the old pentium M model. But just contruction alone it is the nicest laptop i have ever used period. and i have had about 10 laptops. i would not hesitate to get a W2 series if i needed a 17in laptop. In fact there are no other ones i would even concider.

Yeah i agree that the w2 is the most beautiful laptop ever!! However the GPU makes it a hard decision for me to get it..I hope the XG station can solve all the problem

don't get your hopes up....from what i understand the express card transfer rate is not fast enough to handle the graphics processing of higher gpus.....so you will probably get levels of around the 7600go/x1600 with a 7900gs.

Doesn't the W2 come with the Radeon X1700? That should be plenty powerful for modern games, despite the fact that the W2 is a 17" machine. You'll still be cranking out 4,000+ on 3DMark05, and you'll play games like Oblivion and FEAR at pretty good settings with acceptable FPS.

These points are exactly why I wanted owners (or at least retailers) of this lappy to post reviews. The x1700 isn't a powerhouse and 4000+ is a decent score, but what is the real-world implementation like?

If you can't find a W2 review (I'm sure there is one, it may be outdated though), I would read a V1JP review. Aside from the size difference, the specs between a W2 and a V1 are quite similar. You'll be playing games at 1680x1050 on both notebooks anyway, so the FPS should take into account the difference in screen size.

I started writing a review, but never got around to finishing it and I am now much too busy to do so. If you have any questions, I will answer them and otherwise the Xbit labs review of the W2JC holds true of the W2P in all respects but for the performance. As for that, expect (from memory and as an indicator) around 4200 in 3dmark05 and 1900-2000 in 3dmark06. Overclocked to (from memory) 540/980, that changed to around 5000 and 2200-2300.

Hi mugen, have you try HD DVD movies? I am testing it now too, the WinDVD HD version 8 doesn't seem to work, first, it came with the softwre but it wasn't pre-installed, once I install the WinDVD 8 the program won't run, so I had to do Windows update in order to run the program, but when try to play HD DVD movie the screen is all blank.

    Update:
Talked with Asus, they said the WinDVD came with the laptop won't work, they are working on a update version.

    Mugen,
I know you're busy, but when you get a chance can you list a few bullet points of the major positives and negatives of your W2P? I myself am most interested in screen and keyboard.
    Thanks a lot, Ragtopgeek.
