I've just gone through the setup process with Media Center on the W2V. I have my cable TV signal connected straight from the wall to the W2V using the supplied adapter cable. When I select Live TV, I get the following message:

"Decoder Error : The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed. Please restart Media Center and/or the computer."

I haven't yet been able to locate any trouble shooting documentation on Media Center or the included ASUS tuner card, so I'll just start experimenting with different settings.

    Any feedback is most welcome.

OK I installed ASUSDVD, entered the product key code, and launched ASUSDVD ... but it looks as though this application is designed to play DVDs. I cant' find a way to access cable TV. Am I missing something here?

    Thanks,
    Gerry

OK ... I went back into Media Center, selected Live TV and this time it went to a channel number, but there is no picture on screen. I can advance the channel number with the control in the bottom left corner, but no channels have any picture or sound. Just deep black void of nothingness. Should the cable box be set to some specific channel? I guess I'll try going back through the Media Center setup again.

Gerry - this is meant for analog cable... if you have a cable box that descrambles your cable, you obviously can't be hooked up before that, you'd have to hook up after that....

But when you go into the set up in media center... go to the tv set up and let it do it automatically.

Yes, I had changed over to using the cable box right after I posted this thread. But I was still not receiving any signal on screen until after I installed the ASUSDVD, restarted the computer, and went through the Media Center setup again.

I now have picture and sound. So what is it that gets corrected by installing the ASUSDVD software?

Plus, I think I recall reading here that the Media Center remote does not work with this setup, even though the Media Center insists on wanting to help set it up for you. I couldn't get it to work, and so just gave up. But I can select channels with the cable box remote just as normal.

    Thanks!

The system needed an mpeg decoder... that's what the dvd program is.......... it's just got to be on the system......

The Media Center remote DOES work with the system.....just not with the internal IR.... it has a usb reciever that you need to use - thats the only down side to using a microsoft product............ but the software far exceeds the software asus has that uses the internal IR.......

With a cable box, on your home tv.. do you change channels on your tv, or on the cable box? If you use the cable box, that's the ONLY way you're going to be able to change channels because the tuner in the computer works just like your tv........ over a major part of this country cable still comes in unscrambled, so you just plug the cable in from the wall and off you go...... so just realize it's going to work just like your tv will... if you need to use the box to change channels on your tv, you'll need to use it on the computer (which would make that a waste to use).
