    Hello

I need to ship my optical disk drive for servicing and I would like to know if there is something I need to take care when dismantling the drive....

Can I use the laptop without the drive?

What should I do to disactivate it from the OS so that I can remove it and use the laptop without it?

    Thanks

Yes, you can use your laptop without the optical drive. After you take out the drive, the windows will not crash itself. You can uninstall the optical drive's driver before shut it down. After taking it out, the BIOS will not detect it anymore, then Windows also will not detect your drive anymore. One more thing, you should contact the Asus service center and make sure that they let you take out the drive for service so that they can replace a new one for you in peace without any warranty status' trouble.

likair, did ASUS say you can just remove the optical drive and send that in?, usualy they take your entire laptop and then check the whole thing out, but i'm not sure about your case.

I think you should double check.

    Thanks,

what do you mean? should I have permission from Asus to remove the Optical Drive and send it for service?

I'm not sending the drive to Asus.
