HI guys, I am eagerly awaiting for the release of the new and beefed up W2J. Before forking over almost 3,000$ for a notebook I was interested to know from current owners or resellers of W2V about this particular ensemble and its reliability. Has there been any major problems (**besides the sound issue) with this machine, have many of you had to send this unit back for repairs?
I would expect a machine that is in this price range to be of better quality and with fewer problems then purchasing a cheaper notebook for half its price. Any input would be apriciated. :)

asus uses great components in all their lines no cheap stuff. Asus motherboards good video cards its all the same really. but the construction of the W2V is very good i have no issues with mine. never had to send it in for anything. its been a very good pc. your going to get good relaibility from any asus notebook. the differences are what specs you want build and display quality. so if you want a stronger build and nicer looking pc than get the w2j.

thanks SRD for your input, are you happy with your screen, I know its a WSXGA+ but is it above average in terms of viewing angels and brighteness when comparing other ASUS models ( yeah I know the IPS* on V6Va is top notch) but how would this one rank with the rest?

It is a sharp clear screen. The viewing angles are not the best ive seen but they are more than enough not a problem with this screen. The only comment i could have about this screen is i wish it were a tad brighter. thats it. its a very good screen overall very comfortable on the eyes also.

I havent gone on vacation with it. Its light for its size screen. but its large in length and width. but i have a thin bag for it so its not bad. i wouldnt get this to travel every day though.

... you're not going to be traveling with the W2. Like SRD said, it's light for its screen size, but it's a big footprint and traveling with anything over 5.5-6lbs is a pain in the rear....... for me anyway.

I travel with my W2V just about every week. I lug it around in a Matias case. It fits under the seat on pretty much every type of plane. Sure it's big to carry, but it's worth it once you get where you're going.

The W2 is tops. Just go for it dude!

You're right... it depends on where you're going and what you do..... but if you've just got that and a little weekend carry on.... it's a huge waste of space.... For me, if I'm going someplace for a week or less - I've got a small carry on and I must have a sub 3 pound computer..

Currently, I have a 15'' notebook, but the screen size is too small, I'd prefer a 17''.

Planning to use it when travelling with the train (2 hours every day), as desktop replacement and now and then when travelling by plane.

I think this will be a tough decision.

If you trael on a train for that long every day and already use a 15" and that's not "big enough" .... the W2 is the lightest 17" windows based system.... the 17" powerbook is less than a 1/4 pound lighter... but it appears you have no choice. I wouldn't go with something like the Z83v because that's WAY too big and heavy to even consider traveling with.

I like mine laptop a lot. I use it every day en never had a problem.
Only the DVD burner don't want every brand of CD's.
    The screen is perfect.
If i can do it all over again i buy the same ore the W2J :D
I don't travel a lot with the laptop, but if i do i don't mind the weight, because it s worth it.
If you have the money buy it!!!

Honestly I thought anything under 10lbs was going to be fine, because I thought I was strong. WRONG.

Even carrying my Z70Va with a couple books around is a real pain in the butt.

When I have it all by itself that's fine, but maybe you could manage since the W2V is so **** sexy.

I say screw the weight and your back, just get it~!

    :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

.... no one takes my word for it... everyone's coming from heavier laptops and thinks the 6.25 pounds of the Z70 is a good size to take to class... but it's been my opinion nothing bigger than a W3 or V6 should really be carried around like that.... even if your history book weighs more than your laptop..

I have an ebags sleave that can fit the w2v like a glove the ac adapter and a mouse. with that its so east to carry around the weight doesnt bother me i could walk a mile with it. I never though the weight was a concern its just large size wise so easy to bump into things when walking around with it. Kinda like carrying a fold up table in a bag, A light one of course.
