    Hello all,

Are there any W2W owners out there that have installed Windows 7 on their W2W? Either 32 or 64 bit any version.

The W2W is a pretty high end laptop made in 2007 and includes a T7700 2.4 GHz CPU, 4GB DDR2 memory plus 1GB of Intel Turbo Memory with an ATI HD2600 (256MB). A HD-DVD optical drive, bluetooth and a TV tuner.

Anyway I cannot get Windows 7 to install and would like to know if any other owners have been successful with a clean install on their W2W.

    Thanks for reading this.

Windows 7 should install on the W2W. What exactly is the problem when you are trying to install the OS?

Yes, that's what the Windows 7 compatibility checker reports also.

Everything goes along fine with the installation until the screen resolution changes from VGA resolution to the native 1920X1200 resolution and then CHRASH! a BSOD! The W2W never recovers and will not even boot into the safe mode. Starting up again results in the machine just shutting down with no display ever presented just a black screen until it shuts down.

I ran "Memtest" for several hours and the 4GB (A-DATA DDR2 667, PC2 5300, Dual Channel Kit) passed all tests with flying colors.

My guess is that there is something about the ATI HD 2600 that is at fault since the crash happens just after the screen resolution switches.

I have a W2W and installed Windows 7 (as an upgrade and the install twice deal) with no issues whatsoever. I recently upgraded memory to 4GB (A-Data PC2-6400) and have had no issues. Strike that, for whatever reason since the memory upgrade, every time I put an xD card in the reader I get BSOD. Works fine as long as it's in the camera. Weird.

I agree, must be something going on with the ATI in that machine. Hopefully you will come to some resolve. It's worth it!
