When I burn DVDs I have a weired sound when the disc is spinning. Its almost as if it is touching something everytime its spinning round, at least that is what the sound is like.

Burnt CDs and DVDs play well on CD players and DVD players so there cant be anything wrong with burning.
However, when I burn PC games and try to install them later, they usually fail and the disc cant be read. I have to take it out and put it in again and after several tries it works.

Same for watching burnt Divx/Xvid movies the picture starts hacking and it fails.

Is there anything wrong with my CD/DVD when reading??? Anyone else having this disturbing "spinning touching something noise" when the disc is spinning at higher speed???

    Thanks

Sounds like maybe two things are involved..

    1. What burning software are you using?

    2. I's sure you've checked, but did you pull the disc out and make sure it was seated corrected.

    Thanks,

Well first step is change your burning media. If it sometimes works and sometimes does not its time to change the media brand. Definetly try a different ripper. Ive seen the scraping sound you are talking about a few times. It should not happen with every dvd. It should only happen to some. Again change the type of media you use if this is the case. Alot of self made dvd's with self made made stickers can be heavier on one side. Try to avoid using printed labels. Use a permanent marker instead. If none of this works i would ask for a new drive from your vendor or asus. That was my solution one time when i saw the rubbing problem. Other then that if the rubbing only happens with dvd's and not cd's you should get a replacement drive. If it happens on some but not all dvd's then i would try different media.

If they were talking about dvds with printed labels, you'd hope that would be one glaring thing that'd like to mention. Of course, you and I have both seem worse.... IE: a battery not charging because the ac adapter wasn't plugged into the wall..... etc.

I've had my experience with bad media and just because it's more expensive doesn't mean it always works..... and just because it works with a pioneer drive, doesn't mean it works with a toshiba or a panasonic...... media is tricky like that. Having a dozen different formats between cd and dvds don't help solve the problem either. Do a google search and try to find some media that's been tested with your drive.

Ye i know what you mean. Some customers leave out the obvious. I just got off a 1 hour support call with a guy who says the computer will not boot of his original windows xp cd. Stupid me. SHould have had him check to make sure it was not ms office cd to begin with. This is only the 3rd time something like this happen. You would think i learned by now not to trust the guy on the other end to check the obvious. Seal, you need to be a bit more specific. How does it happen, what meadi adoes it happen with more info would help us help you
