Hello everyone, my first post. I've been looking around for a laptop for quite some time and have narrowed my choice down to the W3 pretty much.

The only thing that concerns me is the graphics, its the X600 with only 64mb of vram, which is fine.. but not great.

I won't be getting this for a few more months, so my question is, will these be offered soon with the X700 or possibly just more vram, say 128mb in the X600?

    Can the GPU be upgraded?

Other asus notebooks don't interest me as much as the W3, due to its size and flawless design.

    Thanks.

I don't think the GPU is upgradable.

There are no plans to release it with a better GPU.

    Thanks for the replies.

I was just wondering if it were going to be upgraded.. and since it will not be, I'll probably just end up getting it anyway.

Does anyone have any benchmark numbers.. how well does it handle HL2 or Far Cry for that matter, curious to know.

You're asking for more than what's physically possible at this point...... a 64mb x600 is a marvel in a system the size of the W3. Whether or not down the road your graphics could be upgraded is not determined by so many factors that it better not be a reason when you're buying it....... The form factor would have to shrink to the current size of the x600, and Asus would still have to most likely be making the W3 (which they probably will for a couple years in one way or another).... I think the biggest issue is with the form factors.... if a year from now nvidia and ati manage to some how set 2 form factors between themselves that would allow for aftermarket upgrading...... the current form factors would be left in the dust.

So basically.... can't do it, but the W3 is going to be the most powerful 14" widescreen notebook you're going to get...... but if it's not enough a bigger system might be something that'd interest you.

    Thanks,
    Justin

    Thanks for the reply..

Decent marks, I was just looking around and saw the Z71 perform twice as much in the 3dmark05 benchmark.. but still too large and not as sexy as the W3...
