Now that advanced ordering is available on PROPortable's site, who's pulled the trigger so far? I'm anxious, and getting ready to do so myself.

I put my swim trunks on and took the dive. I'm working with an old Latitude C400 and desperately need a new system. I'm not sure what I'll do with all this power. So now everyone ... did I make a good move or bad move. Let me have it. I'd like to know how I did.

**** it..... I heard at the end of the day there were orders in for them and when I looked, none of them were from people I sent emails out to which said: get your orders in you want, but try not to mention it on the forum till later on this evening....... well everyone might as well know now... no big deal.

... well you can click the link if you're interested. I'd rather forum members get in before this gets kicked around the web in a few days...

    I'll definitely post a review on this machine. I can't promise a non-biased review though. :)

If this is a stupid question, so be it - does the W3j look like the model on the Asus global website, or like the pics you have up there Justin? I'm presuming those are from the W3v. Thanks!

I've already accepted a few Canadian advanced orders on this unit.. the only problem is that all international customers must either pay us with a bank transfer or a money order - so their funds are physically going to be tied up during the waiting period.

My suggestion would be to talk to Danny at CanadaSys and see if he can help you down the road, or shoot me an email and I'll help you just like the other international orders..

I know the product page we've got up states those are W3v pictures (mainly because the professional shots of the W3j aren't available... but the pictures on the Global site are the same coloring as the pictures on our site...... The W3 looks different in different light.

The only thing I can't confirm yet is the use of those new virtual left and right click buttons.... that would change the look a bit........ the touchpad with the dots is part of the new synaptics looks - so that'll be on there... but the coloring of the chassis is the exact same, if not maybe a slight shade off...... but not enough that anyone would be able to tell the difference without having the two next to each other.

Synaptics site doesn't show these new touchpads that I've seen...... but I'm almost wondering if Asus helped develop them or if the left and right click buttons themselves are even done by Synaptics (although I hightly doubt they aren't - Asus has done many things like this on their own)....

... but look at this link... here is a touchpad that Synatpics has that also serves as a pressure sensative virtual control pad:

    http://www.synaptics.com/products/dualmode.cfm

(AGAIN - this is NOT on the W3j, just something different to look at)

Yeah I looked at the first few orders and they came in from unknown people during the same minute I opened the link... almost like they were waiting there hitting refresh... because we told everyone we wouldn't open it up until Monday....

... I think we'll have little touchscreen aux displays before those touchpads actually take off..... but they've got these neat pads that you can get that glow in almost any different color.... very cool.

Well, I ordered mine as well :p :p :p :D I, of course, didn't get an email either
Jason, I picked up the warranty, extra optical battery, and the Corsair 1GB Value Select 533 ram that was listed in it's accessories.
Is that ram going to be the correct one? It doesn't appear to be the same as listed in the specs of the laptop, but I ordered it anyway.

Funny thing, I was talking to your brother today and he said the link would go hot later in the week or next week as well, and I just randomly checked the site after my simulator and the link was LIVE! You guys are sneaky. I hope I got my advance order placed in time to get the first shipment. :D

Funny, now I goto the link at the site and the RAM that I ordered isn't there. You guys are quick. I guess to prevent more baffoonary like mine :)

Sean sent me a copy of an email he sent over to you - yeah it's the wrong ram, although you *can* use it.... I wouldn't though. Like he said in the email - the 677 is twice the price so we could swap for the other member discount you choose, or you could keep the 533...... whatever...

See, I used the product id for the W3v to import the W3j today.... What I didn't notice was that the DDR2 533 was "attached" to it.... He pulled it off that page after he saw your order and I found out when he asked me if I had the 677 sku'd up and I didn't.... So, I'll try to get that ram up by the morning, but you need to drop me an email so I can mark down what we're going to do about that ram situation.

It said back order on my order from earlier too, so I would doubt it. Probably means that it's not officially in stock right now, so that folks who order it wouldn't get disgruntled when it doesn't arrive on their doorsteps in 3-5 business days.

    Monksorlo,
Just heresay at this point, but talking to sales at Proportable I've heard between 200 to 500. Justin would be the more appopriate person to answer that question though. If you click on his link for public profile you can see all of his posts and how he explains how he is trying to come up with those numbers. It sounds like it is like trying to nail jello to the wall :)

I would think 300-350 would be an reasonable amount, with them being shipped worldwide. I believe the Z70va only had 300~ units when it first came out(after the Z70v)

Considering all the talk about the W3J, 350 doesn't seem like a lot of units. But then, I wasn't around a year or so ago when I've read everyone went ga-ga over the W3V in a similar situation.

Jezz... this is a fast moving thread.... Let me try to clear the air a bit.

Right now we don't have final numbers, but the first shipment is supposed to be at least equal to last year's W3v shipmet...... that about 600-700.... Personally - given the updated specs and all the reviews over the last year about the previous model....... even though it sounds impossible, I think more people are waiting for this one than were the W3v last year. So, I'm going to see if we can get Asus to bring in a bit more...

As for the "backorder" thing.... yeah, it's going to say "backorder", but will allow you to place one away...... Over the last couple years we started getting people who aren't really forum members and just stubled upon the site from out of the blue who would put an order in for the "advanced ordered" and then call and complain when they didn't get it in a week... Now, I know it's pretty darn clear on the page what's going on, but this world is full of average people and average isn't always good.... They say the average person reads on a 5th grade level - ok, that shouldn't be a problem for a product page..... but I think a lot of people have the attention span of a 5 year old - let alone a 5th grader..... by time they get to the bottom of the page they don't have a clue as to what was said above.

So... the moral of the story is...... once our allotment has been reached - it'll stop allowing a backorder and I'll probably get something up on that page saying "advanced orders full" or something to that effect.

Last year close to all 700 W3v's were accounted for within the first 24 hours after release.... close to half of those were our advanced orders with a huge rush on the "release day", where I believe we ran out of the stock we actually got in..... a couple other companies got partial shipments of that 700 and they were gone within the week as well..... it was popular to say the very least... much more than Asus expected. So, I hope they can bring in move of them.. To date - the largest delivery of notebooks Asus has taken at one time is about 3,000 - and those are typically barebones which have 8-9 month shelf lives, at least... so we'll see. They're conservative and want to see actual sales before they'll agree to bring in many more than they've already planned on.

Read reviews of the W3v - and take into account new reviews of say the V6j or anything on the new platform...... the review itself isn't going to vary much. The only thing you may not find are numbers that the graphics card may put out and those can really be found by just searching for benchmarks of the gpu itself.

I do..... a lot actually...... but all I took half days and then spent a good 12 hours after that working on our project car...... to that enough with only a stop for dinner and you'll be wired the following week as well..... The funny thing is the week before I was on the road for two weeks straight and I thought I got myself into a decent new sleep schedule..... I through that out the window!

I have a question on the warranty. On Asus' site, the warranty information reads:

    2-year limited global hardware warranty
    1-year battery pack warranty
On-line problem resolution through web interface (BIOS, Driver update)
OS (Microsoft Windows XP) install/uninstall consultation
    Bundled software install/uninstall consultation
ASUS software supporting (Liveupdate,Power4 Gear+, ASUS Probe)

When I preordered I didn't even think about adding the 2 year additional warranty. If I ordered that 2 year additional am I going to have a 3 or 4 year total warranty? I'm thinking about adding it on since I don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. My last laptop lasted me 4 years. No wonder I'm so desperate for this new one!

    Note that is worldwide.

The North American one only has 1 year global warranty by default, and the extra warranty is North American only, and it adds to a total of 3 years N.A. warranty, and the 1st of those 3 years is global.
