I am looking at getting a laptop for school under/around $2000 and I love the looks of the W3J but I want some opinions on whether or not there are better, cheaper Asus alternatives. I am looking at waiting for the Z96J to come out, what do I lose/gain with the z96J compared to the W3 besides the sexy looks?

Also Im open to other opinions on upcoming laptops I could wait for or whether the W3 is the way to go.

    Thanks!

ASUS is in my opinion the best value. It may not be the cheapest, but that is becuase it is built so well.

You can get a dell cheaper with similar specs (minus the x1600) but youll know the difference, and kick yourself in the long run.

IMO the best brands out there are ASUS, Lenovo, Sony and Apple . Stick to those, and you will be happy you did.

Oh, and the macbook pro has close stats.

I am stuck b/w The Dell M1210, MB, Sony SZ and W3j. Is there anyway I can physically go to some retail store and test out the w3j? The pictures alone is not enough to get the the "feel" of the notebook. I have already gone to Sony's and Apple's store in NYC. Anyone know any retail store or maybe some video of the w3j. The specs aren't what concern me but rather how the physical dimension and feel compare to the other brands I listed.

Eddie has already posted several videos he shot of the W3j. Check the links from his thread here. All three were working last week, but only the bottom two are good when I just checked...

This has not got much to do with this thread, but I was using a Sony T9 today and the touchpad was awfull!! it was glossy and your finger gets stuck and makes the mouse movement eratic, it was horrible.

oh and I just realised that the W3J has a horizontal scrol on the touch pad!! the strip on the right makes the page go up and down, but even though there is no picture of a scroll bar across the bottom of the trackpad if you put your finger on the bottom of the touchpad and move it left to right, a horizontal scroll icon appears and is pans left and right!! fantastic

I would actually get teh W3J if budget is of no conern, because it is much smaller and 1lb lighter. If you are wiling to consider other Asus models, there is the A8Jm with the 512MB nVidia Go7600 and webcam for $300 cheaper than the W3J.
