    Hi All,

I did a format/clean install of Vista RC1 last night and it's very stable and fast, but it doesn't have any compatible audio drivers available. Is anyone else in the same boat?

the ASUS website has sound drivers for XP but when I try to install them the process halts and says they're not compatible.

Is there an ASUS site with Vista drivers? I couldn't seem to find any reference to it anywhere.

    Thanks in advance!

    -Matt

tried the same thing dude with my W3J. Asus drivers cd doesn't do anything. Vista doesn't support it. I mean i guess vista is cool, but its not THAT much better than XP unless i don't know how to use it. Mac UI is MUCH BETTER lol

Soundmax (chip in W3J) is terrible with drivers. It is really a shame, Realtek is much better.

    Did you try windows update?

Here is also a page which may help:

Go to SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio section.

    Good luck!

Yes i am on bios 207. This is weird as quite a few others who are also facing this reboot loop problem after pressing a keyboard key when it prompts "Press any key to load CD or DVD"...

Anyone has a solution to this?

Hey y'all, first post :) ! I have been reading the forums for a while though.

I think I'm going to install Vista RCI on my W3J tonight and was wondering if the other drivers for xp on the ASUS website for the W3J would work, if I could just install them through windows update, or if I needed to download the drivers somewhere else. If the latter is the case, I can find them myself. Sorry if this is a little off topic. Thanks.

That is weird though DJ_LuV, I dunno if I've read about that happening anywhere else. If I come across anything I'll let you know.

All I can say is...this is why Vista's still in beta :)

This just helps me solidify my decision to stick with XP for the next year or so, while Vista gets all it's quirks and growing pains worked out.

Still, this does bum me out. I was considering trying out Vista RC1 on my W3J when it arrives, but if it's going to bunk the sound drivers...well, not worth it for me. If anyone DOES find a solution to this though, I want to hear it! I am very excited about the new security featuers of Vista, as well as some of the nice eye candy.

But this is not a Beta. Its release candidate. This means feature complete and almost out he door I thought.

Candidate, yes. Final version, no. It's still Beta, until it hits store shelves with a pricetag on it.
This makes me less bummed! :D I might actually have to grab me a cheapo 2nd HDD and a HDD caddy after all, and try running a dualboot Linux/Vista setup as an alternate setup to my primary drive for home use.

    Hmm...possibilities...

yeah, i installed vista on my w3j - easy as pie - but whats the point - i got bored after five minutes and went back to my old hard drive with xp.
Mac os x86 on the other hand - that would be amazing!!!
Has anyone here done it on a w3j - got graphics and sound working? Anyone have an image handy?? i'm sick of xp not using the two cores for ANYTHING!!!!
