So the audio from the W3J I always felt was really low. Well, I recently installed VLC player on my linux partition and all I can say is WOW! The sound is much louder and clearer! So I guess this means that the problem lies in the windows drivers?

Interesting. It'll be cool to see if the drivers in Vista (if we ever get working versions) work as well as yours.

OK, I have downloaded VLC, on to my desktop, if I open it will it install straight up, and how do I use it with all my albums in Windows Media Player?

True but who knows, VLC may fix whatever problem he's having on Windows Media Player. VLC is pretty simple but fairly powerful. After installing, try playing just about any file you can imagine.

Did anyone else notice the volume control in the BIOS? I turned it up to max (8) from the default 3, but I'm not sure it made much of a difference (Vista)...

I think that's probably referring to the post-sound - i.e. the sound you hear as the Asus logo pops up as you hit power. I don't think it controls anything other than that... but I haven't experimented recently.

Yes I have turned the BIOS sound down without any difference. That only controls the startup sound.
