Hello,
I'm considering buying a W3J from a place on the internet. The store allows you to choose which processor (T2300 - T2500), ram, and HDD to have in the laptop. I was under the assumption that W3J was precustomised and that you wouldn't have the option to configure it apart from possibly the RAM. Was I wrong about that? Would customising the processor void the ASUS warranty? I emailed the store regarding the warranty and they said that customising it would not void the warranty but just thought i'd check here too.
Thanks!

It will certainly absolutely totally void the Asus global warranty; the reseller may offer you their own warranty in it's place. If they're acting like it won't void the Asus warranty, then don't deal with them. There's a difference here. May I ask what the store is?

Yes it will null any asus warranty. if they said it wont swat is right dont deal with them at all.

I mean, I've heard of some resellers being a little tight-lipped about the whole voiding asus warranty thing, but I don't think I've ever seen someone out-and-out LIE about it.
Temporal, I don't care what kind of price they're offering, if they actually told you that upgrading processor/HDD/whatever would NOT void the Asus warranty, then stay the freak away from them.
I bet the reputable resellers here on the forum (Geared2Play, PowerNoteboks, Proportable, etc.) would have a fit if they knew who this was. -

Temporal, if you looking into buying the W3J-H026.
This model comes with a 2.0Ghz Yonah, 100gb @5400rpm HD, 1x1gb DDR2 @667mhz, and the X1600 256mb.
If you feel that these spec are not to your liking you CAN change them however it will void the ASUS global warranty.
From there you can get the Reseller's warranty.
If you want to buy the W3J and then put in an extra 1x1gb stick of ram then your pretty much good to go.
The W3J does come preconfigured, its called an Ensemble unit, and ASUS has BOA (Built-on Asus) models in which you can totaly configurate them.
As for price, usually upgrading through a reseller like upgrading the CPU or downgrading the cpu and other part can make the laptop cost more than the initial price.
Thanks for coming to the forums and discussing. -
Thanks for the responses all - I thought it seemed a bit odd.
The retailer who was offering the customisation and stated that it wouldn't void the ASUS warranty was www.customlaptops.com.au. If you click to buy the W3J it brings you to the configuration screen where you can choose different processors etc. Unfortunately they are the only Aussie retailer that i've found that sells the W3J. I was quite particular about asking after ASUS's warranty, not the resellers warranty - maybe they just don't realise it? I wonder if I could find some info on the ASUS website that talks about the warranty and copy/paste it to them to see what they say in response?
Thanks again though. I'll steer clear of them for now.
