Hey all! I've been lurking in this forum for 7 months now and am very impressed by the knowledge and helpfulness of this site. I've been looking for a laptop and I decided to choose an Asus because of all your comments, because it seems like they make high quality notebooks, and for the uniqueness factor of owning a non-dell, non-apple computer. :D And after many months of waiting for refreshes and shopping around (I was considering the A8js/p, the w3j, and the v2je, among others), I found a site that sells the w3j with modular battery at a clearance price and I'm very tempted to jump on it. I heard it's build was arguably the best Asus ever made, and the price cut for being discontinued made it more attractive than the v2je at MSRP.

My question is: what does the EOL (End of Line) mean for the notebook? I know it means they don't produce it anymore, but I was wondering if it also meant the 2 year Asus warranty is useless. I wouldn't want to have a situation where my laptop broke down and Asus couldn't service it because they don't have the parts for it anymore. Any thoughts?

They will honor the warranty, however it's possible (though fairly unlikely, I think) that if there is a certain part that fries, it might not be available. Also, have you considered the newer V2s? It looks excellent for the price, and should be a fairly good replacement for the aging W3J.

Well, I have considered the v2s-a1 laptop, but the MSRP is $1800 and sorta higher than the $1500-$1600 amount I would be willing to spend. The F8sv-a1 is also nice, but I don't know about the battery life on that new laptop. The w3j seems to have the best balance of power and battery life of the 14in laptops. I don't really need a webcam and fingerprint scanner, so those aren't things that help justify the v2 price increase.

Keep in mind that the V2 comes with both a 6-cell and a 9-cell battery in the box, which to me helps justify alot of the price difference.
