Does the C2D W3J use PATA or SATA?

The W3 as a series uses PATA. SATA will not work because they do not that an STA connector.

And I assume there's little if any preformance difference between the two standards?

In theory there is, the SATA throughput is technically 50% faster..... what you'll see on the notebooks isn't really that much though and you could still bump up to say a 7200rpm drive if you wanted a real performance boost.. I'd put it this way, I wouldn't base your decision not to get the W3 because it has a PATA hard drive.... just like I'd tell people not to base their decision on getting an A8 on the fact that it has DVI out..... base the decision on something more important.

Still waiting on that converter cable since the W3J technically does have the controller  . I won't hold my breath though... :p

Don't hold your breath is right. We did get cables in to test a long, long time ago and nothing ever came of them.
