I know this has been discussed before, but my W3J is having some issues with heat and I am not sure if everyone is having this problem or if it's just me. I have been playing Civilization 4, a less graphics intensive game than most, and during play, Speedfan says my temperatures are 70 C on temp 1, and even when I'm browsing the internet, right now for instance, it says 61 C for temp 1 (45 for HD). Then, it locks up or crashes. This is when it is on the game setting with the AC adapter plugged in. The game acutally seems to run better in quiet office mode. Any answers or advice???

Those temps are well within normal operating temps, and your pc shouldnt be locking up...maybe at 85-90C...your hdd is abit on the hottish side but again not extreame...and within range
Thus I would suggest looking for other causes for the lock up...do you get a bsod, what kind of crash are we talking about?
    Are you undervolting or overclocking?
What drivers are you running for the gpu?
Also try asus probe just in case speedfan is not reporting temps correctly.

    Aye. What he said.

Also, you could have faulty RAM. You could have unstable or botched drivers. Your CPU could be faulty, but that would be quite rare. Those temps are QUITE normal. Does it only happen with the one game? Could be some sort of compatability issue. You could try looping 3Dmark05 to see if that reproduces the problem if you don't have other games to test out.

okay, well I'm glad to know the temperatures are okay. I downloaded and am using the latest Omega drivers. No undervolting or overclocking (not even sure what that is, lol). I did try one other game, Rome:Total War. It's an older game but it seemed to run fine, though I haven't played it for more than 10 minutes. I am just really getting into computers; i understand the basics but am continuing to learn. I will try ur suggestions and keep this thread updated. Thanks.

You should use official drivers. Either stock drivers that came with it, or use ATI Catalyst Mobility drivers. You can find a link to those on this forum.

Those are fine temps..... you get into the 90's and I'd be concerned, but even then, on intense gaming, you can hit 100 with certain centrino systems and cpus......

Wow does the W3J normally run that hot? I don't think I've ever seen the HDD/CPU temps on my A8Jm get above 45/60

Then again the A8Jm has an annoying habit of practically never turning the fan off once it comes on

My temps right now are 28 HDD and 38 CPU, but it's been sitting there doing nothing for an hour and the fan has been running the whole time, so that probably explains that.

speed fan occasionally turned the fan off hence the 90C temp..honestly i'd rather have the fan stay on or have control like i8kfangui for dells..wow those are low..with the w3j is gets at best 48 constant with the fan on low

Yeah, we should really have a sticky in the ASUS forums titled "Do NOT use SpeedFan, it'll cause your fans to stop working !!!" or something like that :)

sabre: Which BIOS are you using? I'm still using 207 (fan comes on low at 49-50C).. and with a notebook cooler + undervolting, my temps range ard 46-47 AC plugged in... 38 is really nice and low...

Okay, I got rid of speedfan, but for some reason can't get ASUS probe to load. I can download and extract the files, but when I click on the setup button, nothing happens. Any ideas?
