No. Right now that would push the cost of the unit up to close to $2,000 and that is out of the marketable price range (so says Asus)... there will not be an update to the W3 until the next chipset in the late Spring.

Yeah, well it's no secret that every Asus market has their own model as their Asus Office's order them based on the configuration that will best sell in their market.....

Wow, free case and four-cell battery! Is it possible to get a replacement U.S. keyboard to get around the Euro Azerty layout?

All Core 2 Duo Ensembles in the US come with a carrying case and mouse... and trust me on this one, you don't want the 4 cell battery, free or not. The reason the US doesn't even offer it is because it's half the life, but the same physical size (due to the design of the W3) and only saves a couple ounces... it's not half the weight. Considering it'll only give you a max of two hours of life, it really shouldn't be celebrated.... especially if you even remotely consider the costs and time of importing.

asfar as i know the 4 cell battery can be placed in the same slot as the dvd drive... if you check the battery propertie you'll see it supports two batteries. i definitley do want the extra battery, when i'm on the road i prefer extra lifetime over a dvd drive...
actualy, my w3j sold with the battery but i'm still waiting for it.

and in holland we use qwerty...

Actually, the 4 cell is a main battery...... the optical bay battery you're speaking of is a 6 cell...... always has been. The 4 cell main, as I said, didn't get imported to the US because it only saved a couple ounces, took up the same physical space, and only cost maybe $20 less than the 8 cell.

The W2 is only a year and half old as a design..... it's got another two cycles ahead of it at least.... so of course it'll get refreshed, but not in the spring, at least for the US market. See below to get what I'm talking about:

    W2vb - released 9/2005
    W2jb - released 6/2006
    W2pb - released 12/2006.

Based on the current release here in the US, I do not expect a new model until June of this coming year at the earliest.... However, it could of course be later like August or September.

Thanks Justin, kind of new to Asus. When I am thinking refresh, I am really thinking with it having Vista installed and possibly Santa Rosa, although that is not really that crucial to me. So, will they keep the W2pb, and simply re-install Vista onto any existing stock (what little there appears to be out there) in late Jan/early Feb?

Well, come February, all systems should have vista pre-installed... that we won't call a "refresh"... That has it's +'s and -'s as well... personally I'd rather xp pro right now and a free copy of vista for upgrading later. There's nothing like have a new os right out of the box... I know vista is great, but there will be issues and some people just can't roll with the punches. For me, vista is already on my media center, but it won't be on my business machines until I know everything is going to work perfectly......

Santa Rosa chipsets will start showing up at the end of Q1 - say 3 months..... but all systems won't be done at the same time. The models that are just coming out now are going to have a longer life than models that really came out in the late summer.. and more so than those that were last refreshed last April..
