    My current W3J setup is the original retore partition and the rest formatted as NTFS. How do I get this notebook back to its original state. WItht the two Fat32 partitions. Can I just use the resore from the first partiion? And How do I use that?

    It comes with a recovery CDs. After putting a CD to an optical drive and boot up from CD, a few options you can choose. One of them is format with the 2 partitions. Their default setting after formatting is FAT32. After it formats your HD, then you also requrie to put the drivers CD in. The last step is to install the Windows automatically after starting. You only follow all the step and instruction, then the Windows will be restored with 2 FAT32 partitions.

    Cheers

    If I have to use the CDs then what is the purpose of the hidden first partiion for? There is a 1.5 gig partition at the beginning of the drive that I thought was for restoring??

    Probably, the 1.5GB is for the storage of recovery system file backup. Asus gave the hidden partition name(drive name) as "Recovery". You can find out the drive name under the Control Panel-->
    Administrative Tools-->
    Computer Management-->
    Disk Management,
    then you will see all the partitions in the hard drive.
    After you put the recovery cd, 4 items can be chose such as
    1. MS-DOS with CD-ROM Support.
    2. Recover Windwos XP to first partition only.
    3. Recover Windows XP to entire HD.
    4. Recover Windows XP to entire HD with 2 partition.

    Just simply choose what item you want, then following it. The recovery of Windows will be done. The time will take 1 and half to 2 hrs approximately.

    Cheers

    if you look through the paper work you recieve with the W3J, there is actually a sheet explaining how to recover from the hidden partition on the notebook drive or the Asus recovery CD.

    It is easy to follow and as stated above you can easily choose how you would like to restore the drive, factory or otherwise.
