Hi I am a W3j owner and i recently had a problem that i cannot fix with my W3J. I left it on last nigt and it went into hibernate (im guessing) i pressed the esc key when i got back, and many other keys, and it would not come back on. i hit the shut down button on the side of the computer and turned it back on. Lo and behold the screen will not come on AT ALL for me, it is totally black, for the asus part and everything help please i need my laptop for school

Let me be sure I understand what you're saying - the unit starts otherwise normally, but there's nothing on the LCD? You're trying to start it with AC plugged in now, right? If you left it on overnight and *nothing* happens when you hit the power button, and you have your power options to always on instead of standby/hibernate, it probably forced hibernate because the battery was too low and now has nothing left to start up with.

OK, if not that then let's start with obvious to be sure it isn't something simple and assuming it wasn't dropped (which could have dislodged the LCD cable connection). How about increasing the brightness buttons (on the outside chance that it set to zero), or the LCD toggle on/off button? If neither, what about pressing the reset button underneath to reset the BIOS and try a restart?

You could also try this fix from a thread about Black screens coming out of hibernate on the A8j.

If I understand your problem correctly, I had a similar problem. In the end, what I did was to unscrew the X1600, pull it out, and put it back in. When I started up the next time I had no more problems.

I once had this problem too.

    Solution:
Take the included S-video cable, plug it into the computer (you don't need to plug it into a TV or anything else - just let it dangle) and try turning on the computer. That fixed it for me and since that one issue I haven't had any problems since.

well thanks for your responses, but i dont have an s-video cable, i dont really wanna take out my graphics card.... i left the notebook on overnight while it was plugged, in , the light indicator was on, but when i hit any keys on the keyboard it would not wake up. ive let it load up and ive hit the brightness and lcd on/off lots of times,... the reset button is the one u have to use a paperclip to do? if so ive done that.

I'm fairly confident the S-video cord will fix the problem if you can find one. My W3J came with one in the same bag as the manual. If you don't have yours, ask anybody you know if they have one. You don't need to keep it, you just need to plug it in and turn the laptop on - it's as simple as that.

it did this to me recently too, i think it has to do with the "hard drive turning off" option after certain minutes. I turned it off manually and it just restarted fine.

you could have always tried the fn+ stanby key. That puts it into standby and then you press another key to bring it out again. Turn off the "hard drive spin" or whatever in power4 gear and you should be all set

ya I was just about to type that :p but another one that has been working more recently for me that I am suprised I havent come across for me is just close the lid and reopen it :p this works only if the LCD is "on" and simply not backlit... this gets around that resuming after standby problem for me that people have been talking about

okay it happened again, my computer froze, and when i turned it back on the screen would not turn on, after a few tries of it starting up all the way, now it is in the restarting loop it makes the "asus" noise and then restarts after a few seconds, still black screen...

Like ClearSkies, I'm wondering did you recently drop it or anything? It sounds like some wiring could be loose.

If you didn't drop it, try putting in a bootable CD to see if it is something wrong with your window installation. If you can consistently boot into anything then you can be pretty sure it isn't a hardware problem. In this case it would be as easy as reformatting/reinstalling your OS to get it working again.

Oh, it could also have something to do with a BIOS flash. Did you recently flash your BIOS?

If it is still on warranty send it in for repairs. It could be the GPU which has fried  or just a loose lcd cable :D
Let the professionals fix it for you while you relax ;)
