Hm... my W3J (purchased in June 2006) doesn't have that program and I don't remember those processes being there. Then again, I don't worry too much as I'm not trying to run Vista.
-
-
well as a student I get a good price on it, so I want to get it and get it working before the school year is up
-
I have never heard of the TPM thing until this thread. I have no icon tray and have never seen mention of it.... Strange.
-
I am not sure why people are having problems installing on their W3Js?? I installed Vista fine with no hacks or issues at all. Just a normal install.
-
And...no...there isn't any option for TPM in the bios for me.
Guess that's causing the big problem for some of us. -
To figure it out:
For those that installed Vista fine, which version is it, the core duo 1.83, core duo 2.0, or the core 2 duo? Do you have TPM, if so did you initialize it? -
I have the core duo 1.83 W3J, however I had to use the bootloader hack in order to install Vista because without the hack my W3J went into a boot loop. So I'm assuming that my W3J has a TPM because the hack bypasses calls to the TPM.
-
d12, you have an older one correct? I guess that screws that theory about the TPM then.... or does it, can you put in your w3j driver cd and browse it (not the auto start menu) and browse to the TPM folder and try and install it?
-
i would estimate that asus will release drivers for vista in about 6-8 weeks. I bought a hp vista ready computer and the "express" upgrade will be shipped 6-8 weeks including and drivers needed for the install. If this is the case then i think asus will do the same.
-
I tried installing the TPM software that I downloaded from the vista drivers list on this forum, however when i try to install the program it says that the TPM is not found. So again i'm guessing that the bootloader hack disables access to the TPM. -
this is getting stupid, I was thinking of calling their support line, then I realized that it wasnt a 1 800 number and I would be paying for it
-
so it really seems like the first gen w3j users who are affected..
Sigh....doesn't Asus know about the products they produce....=/ -
Yes, they do. But think about it. It isn't even a whole product model. Just part of it. They already sold them. They never promised you vista would run on it. Not to be mean or put words in their mouth, but how much do they care or even need to care? Probably not too much. I mean, how many of these things do they really sell compared to places like dell, hp, etc.

the sticker is my reasoning too.... I will be patient, but I not for too long
on another note, havand, are you saying that later models of the w3j are working fine with vista? if so which (processor and TPM chip) -
ASUS will release a W3J bios that will fix the vista issue, but it will take them some time. Please be patient
-
Have been
-
I'll give them until Vista SP1 is released, if they haven't pulled their finger out by then, im selling my w3j, and buying a dell
just to punish myself for mistaking Asus for a company that gave a hoot.
-
Hi
I emailed asus and this is the reply i got.
-
-
Well, atleast they sent you a nice informative personal response instead of some generic reply. Interesting that they have it running and I can't. Mine is the 1.83ghz core duo 1gb ram (2x512) and 100gb hd.
-
what worries me the most about this is the inconsistancy. i am very hesitant to run vista on a laptop that doesn't always work. due to the inconsistancy, asus might do less to fix it, especially if they've already got one working. didn't one of the vendors on here say that they were going to contact asus about this issue?
-
I was able to install Ultimate without any problems but I'm having trouble getting the sound to work...
Anyone know if you can use one product key that you get with a comp on multiple computers? -
-
mines the older duo t2500 version

run the asus installer for it and then your volume buttons will work -
UPDATE:
I just did an install of Windows Vista Business without having to use any bootloader hack! ****, I shoulda install Vista without the hack in the first place to see if I have the same problems as other W3J users.
I purchased my W3J from MWave.com.au. They shipped me a North American W3J.
I have the following specifications:
Core Duo T2500
2x 1GB 667 DDR2 RAM
100GB 5400 HDD
I have removed the hidden recovery partition. Have two partitions, NTFS on both.
I should stop reading this forum... the amount of problems are 0 for me so far for W3J - No restarting loop, no crashes due to drivers, no problems due to waking up from Standby, etc.
I LOVE MY W3J!!!
Oh, 210 BIOS! -
I have a dream... that one day I will stop using "I" at the start of sentences.
-
I have a asus W3j with core duo t2500 2.0ghz
i installed windows vista ultimate
having no problem, ''''one problem was due to the sound but now its fix'''. he took me about 1 day to find it, but i find the link on this forum for the drivers lol.. Anyway this is totally normal because its a brand new version, so the drivers are hard to find, but in a couple of month vista will very big because the OS is awesome.
I dont know why people talking about TPM and all this junk, boothack whatever
I just put the dvd into my notebook and i folowed the instruction
Thanks bender for the Soundmax Links. -
i will give it a try once i think about which version to buy. I have the Core duo t2500 2.0ghz with 1 gig of ram (1x1). So far I hear success stories from all t2500 w3j owners. Maybe mines will work also. =) i will report back once i get buy vista.
-
It seems it's the Core Duo T2300 users are the ones having the problem.....
-
Maybe.
Because i never saw people having problem with t2500
-
i have the t2400 version of vista and having the reboot loop problem, so i had to use the bootloader hack to install vista. if i were to upgrade my cpu to t7200 do u think that would fix it?
-
It looks like the core duo 1.83 versions do not have TPM, do the core duo 2.0 versions do? -
oh...T2400 i mean.....1.83Ghz
Yes..it's the TPM...grrrrrrrrrrrr -
Well d12
i suggest you at least to wait for new updates, not to go far as it to change your cpu only for run vista, Vista is hot, yeah everybody know that, but for the moment there not alot application that can be run on this OS..Im sure your xp run great . keep it like that and wait for the update so you can upgrade with still your t2400 on board.
Unless your ambition is to go with fast cpu, like gaming or whatever take the t7200... but not only an option for uprading to vista. -
And don't forget that yout t2400 is 32bit (x86) and support only 32bit vista
and that the t7200 C2D is 32-64bit compatible
because some of people think that he absolutely need a 64bits processor to run vista..he dont know that vista support 32bit cpu
have a good day

HAHA - So am I to take from this that my first wave W3j (1.83ghz) is not able to run Vista right now without a hack? Please tell me I've misunderstood that.
-
I've looked around and haven't seen any options for turning it on/off in my W3J. -
Then find:
TPM Security.
Then toggle to Disable/Enable. -
So can we conclude that W3J with TPM disabled is able to install VISTA?
W3J with TPM enabled is able (or maybe not) to install VISTA?
W3J with no TPM is not able to install VISTA?
Or is it just luck? -
Yes and I'm unable to install Vista the correct way... -
-
Could those that have the ASUS W3J H026P check to see if they have the same option as I do, with the 210 BIOS?
-
i have the asus w3j t2500 with bios 210. and i could i have under the security tab under bios screen the disable and enable option for tpm security.i am not sure if this is the ho26p. so does this mean i can install vista safely?
-
Perhaps thats the problem. I haven't tried installing vista on my W3j yet, I have the C2D refresh version. Under the security tab in bios I also see an option to disable TPM. Perhaps the first generation W3js did not come with the option to turn it off which is why people are having so many problems with it? =.=;;
-
i don't think the first gen w3j have TPM in them. If you look at the sticker that shows all the specs next to the HDD spec it should say 100gb+TPM. if you look up the the review for the second gen W3J or W3J+ you'll notice that the stick indicates TPM.
-
yea well if if there was no tpm in the first gen of w3j's then why is there a problem? TPM needed for vista or what?
-
Looking at my BIOS again, I don't have a TPM option. I take it I have the H017P model based on my laptop's specs (1.83GHz Core Duo, 2x512MB DDR2, etc).
Not a big deal; I'm not trying to install Vista anyway, just wanted to know if I had a TPM module in my machine.
