When I try to play certain commercial DVDs on my W3J the DVD drive won't read them and simply produces a loud clicking/grinding noise. The DVDs are not scratched in any way (in some cases fresh out of the package). Are there any known problems with this drive? Or does anyone have a link to a newer firmware that could possibly fix this? I already contacted Asus for an RMA but was wondering if you guys had any experience with this issue.

What make / model of DVD drive is it? (Look in Device Manager). In my experience, computer manufacturers tend to use more than one source. Firmware updates will need to be specific to your drive. Is there a Live Update facility?

Is the problem confined to reading certain commercial DVDs? Do you have any problem with burning your own discs?

TS-L623D. A google search reveals some problems with Dell computer that have this drive reading some DVDs, but no firmware upgrades. The problem only occurs with certain commercial DVDs, all my own burns work fine. At first I thought it could be some sort of copy protection issue, but that doesn't seem likely since, for example, disk 1 of a Scrubs season plays, but disks 2 and 3 do not. All 3 work fine on my standalone DVD player/other computers though
