I was wondering if in the future, I would be able to change the processor to a 64 bit. I have the W3J T2500 Core Duo (32bit)....and I would like to know if there are any current or will be in the future other processor that will be compatible with the socket of my w3j.

what is the socket number by the way?

I won't upgrade soon....just would like to know that my W3J has the ability to be Core2Duo (64bit) notebook if it wanted to.

So far my experiance with the notebook has been astounding. :D

I might add another gig of ram, just to make my vista experiance smoother ;) , but that will be later on also.

The laptop will only be able to fit upto current Core 2 processors. Santa Rosa processors are supposed to have a different pin layout and FSB, so I'm 100% certain they will not work.

    So your choices are roughly...
    T5200
    T5500
    T5600
    T7200
    T7400
    T7600

Anything with a 800MHz FSB (the processors soon to be released) will not work, so be careful when upgrading.

    I updated mine from a T2500 (32bit) --> T7200 (64bit)

As for ram, yes, please update to 2GB. You will notice a performance increase, and it doesnt feel sluggish like with 1GB of ram.

Ditto, I'm running on a T7200 (64-bit) and added a gig of RAM. The processor upgrade should probably be done by a dealer or someone who really knows what they're doing since even breaking the seals which are necessary to make the switch voids the warranty.

Also to any W3J owner...I merged two partitions using Acronic and now have a total of 91.2 GB...

I know there was more space before the merge...later on if i reformat the disk clean install completely again...will I gain hard drive space or is this permanent?

The previous generation, or the Core Duo(and Core 2 Duo) you have is Socket M, the newer Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa platform is Socket P, so they aren't compatible.

You can, in the form on Core 2 Duo(Merom), not the newer Core 2 Duo(Santa Rosa). Jeez, I wish Intel would use better names to separate the platforms...

You can, any of the following model numbers will do: T7200, T7400, T7600 (Assuming you are upgrading to a processor with a speed similar to your current one, or greater).
