Hello to all the ASUS forum members! I've waited a long time to join this community but now I finally got my W3J (the old one, not the Merom model-it's not available where I live) :D

However, it seems to have a rather odd problem-If I try to boot it when it's running on battery power (not when it's connected to AC power), it gets to the Windows loading screen-and then reboots itself. Sometimes it does it just once, sometimes more (a lot more...). It eventually reaches the operating system, but due to this problem it takes a rather long time to do so-is there any way to fix this?

You might have a RAM problem.
This happended to me but in AC and bat mode.
The memory sticks were replaced by the shop and have had no problems since.

Just in case this is not a RAM problem check your laptop for Viruses, I personaly use AVG Free. Also contact your reseller about this so they can take care of it, like ArchiNova mentioned.

Also ask the reseller to check all hardware just incase, maybe something got a little loose and that may cause windows to behave erratically.

Have you installed any fan/battery modding utilities? Did this happen out of the box? Probably after some use? In that case i would use the restore disks and resotre it to factory setting. Format it all and save your files. You can go the route of testing your ram and harddrive but the results will probably pass. In that case you still have to format. i am guessing it works just fine on ac adapter? After format watch what you install. Something you installed is probably responsible

I had this problem with the Omega drivers. Using 6.10 now, and everything works :)

    Cheers.

Had the same problem once. Did a system restore to the day before it started happening and everything was honky dory.

Yup, I had the same problem when I updated to 6.11. Lappy would continue to reboot when on battery. Re-installed drivers from CD and all works fine again.

agree with Eddie. No improvement when I played CounterStrike Source. Just stick to the drivers on the cd.

I had had the same problem and had to send it to Asus. Their fantastic repair service had kept it there for a month and the technicians have still not managed to solve this problem. Now, they say that the motherboard and the battery must be changed, but guess what? They DON'T Have any spare parts in WHOLE EUROPE! You can read more about this in a new thread I am trying to post (with the moderator's permission) called ASUS W3J, VX1, S6F, W7 and the Advantage Programme: A true bad review"

There's a fairly large 3DMark increase between the stock video drivers and 6.10 - you can see the difference in my W3J min-review. Since 6.10 hasn't caused any problems that the stock drivers did and boosts the 3DMark score, I'm gonna stick with it until I find a good reason not to.

Sorry to hear that. There should really be stricter rules on releasing drivers which are compatible with all brands of computers. Have you asked the technicians if they can just try changing the video drivers? I would hate to hear you lost your laptop for months due to faulty drivers. What makes them so sure it's those other pieces of hardware?
