Do I need 2 gigs for my W3J? I'm gonna be playing RTS and RPGs, and regular school stuff. From what I hear the x1600 cant effectively use the 512 it gets with hypermemory so I guess 2 gigs wouldnt help with gaming.
    What do you guys think?

i would get it. I am a heavy power ueser and MMORPG's take a ton of ram. I've already used up all my ram at once so my things start lagging :). Then again that is WoW/itunes/Azureus/installing software/surfing web pages, so i guess its up to you but i would get 2gb.

To take 2GB memory is not bad, at least you have a better performance when you run whatever you want. Even thought you run a few program at the same time, more memory still is a good option to let the machine run smoothly. Of course, if the budget is a main issue, and an user doesn't need run many application or games, 1GB should be enough.
    Cheers

i doubt you need 2 gigs to run your applications but if your budget holds and you have a few hundred to spend, by all means go for it.

Certain games like Oblivion will benefit from having 2gigs.. You'll notice that the game will run smoother, and give you a boost in FPS.

when you only have 1 gig, you take a HUGE performance hit when your video card uses hypermemory. So I recommend you get 2 gigs. The laptop is bottlenecked with only 1 gig.

On my current desktop I am playing the BF II demo every now and then. It's an awful experience to play. While my 512MB memory and ATI 9800 Pro can manage it all on medium, it takes like 10 minutes to load a game.

I'd say you should easily be able to play most games with 1GB. Some will play smoother with 2GB but is it worth the money?
