Recently it seems that every 1 out of 5 times i hit the power button (set for hibernate) the machine doesn't do it immediately by doing

    1) flashing a bunch of garbage for about 20 seconds, then proceeds to shut down normally

    or

    2) screen goes either full white or full black and just sits there and I have to manually power down

at first I thought it was the power button that was going wacky so recently I've been doing it through windows and it did the full white thing yesterday

    Any ideas?

Are you running the original shipped BIOS? The first update that Asus released was supposed to address various hibernation issues.

Perhaps try a System Restore to back before this all started?
