I just checked on Geared2Play and they have the Asus W3J IN STOCK! I am just about ready to purchase! I just thought I'd let you guys know if you didn't already.
-
Those are not the new models. The site said that last week
-
No, correct me if I'm wrong but if you go to the order page for the w3j, it lists the core duo t2500 as standard. They have ten of these in stock so I would assume these are the new ones.

The new T2500 version of the W3J with the single piece of 1,024MB memory is in stock at both G2P and PNB...for the moment anyway...they will go quickly because there is only limited inventory available. Justin at ProPortable says he thinks more will be coming shortly, but with ASUS you just never know when the next shipment will actually arrive.

You guys are really getting an awesome deal with the new version of the w3j. To think only a month ago they released the model I'm currently typing on with a slower processor and 2x512 ram. Oh well, it was a great value then and it is even a better value now. If any of you manage to get one I can't imagine anyone being anything but thuroughly impressed.
-
Why does the site say that base is 2x512 sticks?

Dues...please be more specific...what site are you talking about?
Also, if you are asking why a particular website says 2x512 sticks it would be better to email them to find out why they are doing whatever they are doing that is confusing. -
I was assuming these were the old models because of the 2x512 sticks. I thought the new models cames base with 1 1GB stick. This link is what I was referring to.

Strange... It must be a mistake on geared2play. Because I was told 1x1GB, and I have seen other links that say that too. Might want to ask Eddie.

Not a mistake. We received then on thursday. I have not had a chance to confirm that it is 1gbx1 yet. Just playing it safe, Asus has been known to pull switcharroos. Should know for sure monday and will change the listing

If I knew that they were releasing a T2500 in the US I would have waited, for that..........

Everyone is always releasing something new something cheaper. You going to wait your whole life?
-
Kind of true, but they are all Sanoma chips, so there is no reason why the W3J couldnt have come out with it earlier, I would have paid for it.
I suppose the painfull thing for me is that I looked for a 2ghz Pentium M W3V for over a year (and in 3 countries) and when I found one In Thailand in Feb this year, I knew the Duo chips were out so held out till now for the W3J.
I know thats its probably because Merom is just around the corner so they are getting the T2500 cheaper and it is all about hitting the right price, I just wish Asus would at least release two models, one that hits the price point, for the average Joe, and another that is high performance, for those of us that just want the best they can get at the time.
I mean it would be good market research for Asus, I wonder how many other people would go for the faster processor at a higher price? -

and when merom comes out w3j-2 will be around the bend. It will allways be like this.

W3J-2 !!!!!!!!! WHERE ARE THE SPECS, WHERE ARE THE SPECS!!!!!!! Can we pre order
lol j/k -

We prolly can ofer a preorder. But then that would be a very shady way of doing business. I believe a company by the name of istnc takes that approach and many others take example. Tis why they no longer sell any asus
-
Ha Ha...... I think your jumping the gun there..
Anyway I am really happy with my W3J and after 2 years of researching about notebooks, and seeing how road map for future releases, G2P is correct you will never keep up with new developments.
I was just trying to make a point, that at the point of purchase it would be nice to have a few more options, and retaining your Global warantee.
But that is Asus's call so i'm not holding my breath, would be nice to think in a few years time when I go to upgrade, that we choose the spec from Asus......
Do you think this would ever happen? or do you think they will stuck with "Asus Ensemble" and "Asus Built on" -
