the W3j uses PC2-4200/5300 DDR2 SODIMM (2 sockets total) so yes it will work as Gautam mentioned. The only problem i can see is that if you have a 1gb in the there right now then you probably have 2 sticks of 512mb so then if you put in the 1gb stick, you will have to replace one of the 512 sticks with the 1gb for a total of 1.5gb thus wasting a 512mb stick of ram.

I had an Asus M2N before and one of the Rams were integrated if I am not mistaken. Is it the same with w3j or can I access both Ram modules?

One RAM module is accessible underneath the keyboard while the other is under the backside panel.

    They are not integrated.

    Cheers.

    There are three stock variations of the W3J out there, 2 have 1GB (W3J C2D T5500, W3J CD T2500) and 1 has 2x512MB (W3J CD T2400).

    Cheers.

i want to upgrade my w3jp with 1gb extra memory BUT i don't know which brand is better Corsair vs Patriot

    Patriot 1GB SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) PSD21G6672S for $46 AR @ Newegg

    Corsair 1GB VS1GSDS667D2 DDR2-667 PC2-5300 Value Select SO-DIMM for $47 AR @ Zip***mFly

I don't really need to upgrade right now, so would it be better to wait 2-3 months for the release of the new (faster) memories and expect a price drop of the current ones... what do you guys think ??

Edit: for some reason I can't link to the ZZF... it creates *** in the word "z o o m"

I bought that Corsair 1GB stick just under a month ago. It's working just fine, no complaints. I'm not familiar with Patriot.

    Cheers.

corsair's more well known i believe. i'd go for the corsair. and besides, i can also confirm that it works well. on the w3j. i've had the stick for about 2-3 weeks already and it's done wonders to improve my command & conquer 3 playability.

patriot should also do fine, for anyone else wondering. as long as the specs match up with what's designed for your notebook, i don't see any problems at all.

I read a number of reviews that the Patriot sticks would give an audible chirp intermittently. IMO that would get old quick.

I went with Kingston RAM from New Egg...had I waited longer I may have picked up Crucial (they had a crazy deal on OEM but there was some mention that it might not have a retail warranty).

I'm going to put the Kingston in today as soon as I can find the installation walkthrough around here...I know it's supposed to be easy, but I'll beat myself up if I nick the plastic or poke my screen.

I got the cheapest 5300/666mhz 1gb stick. Which was G.Skill.
*And wow checking at newegg. You can get a 1gb stick of ram for 40$ dollars? wow thats 40 bucks less than 2-3 months ago, which i had waited :(......
