I am having a tough choice choosing between these two laptops. I want something that will last, and has a good build quality.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Well thats if you can find a w3j by now, they have been discontinued. Thats a pretty rough comparison anyway because they have so many differences. Different processor, graphics card, size...etc. The G1 will obviously perform better since it is aimed for gamers. I like my w3j, it can sure game, but the quality and design is what made me get it over any other 14" notebook. Here's a recent story that might help you decide, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=111025

If you decide on the w3j, newegg has made a price drop, but if you want to upgrade the cpu check out milestonepc, if they still have any.

If portability is wat you want, i recommend the V2J. But mind that it's not a gaming machine.

V2 is nice, but the X1450 is a little bit on the weak side...

Is the V2 lighter than the W3J?

From what you are looking at the G1 which is a 15.4" laptop and the W3J which is a 14" laptop.

    Here are your options:

    15.4"
    V1JP
    G1
    S96j/Z96j
    F3JP

    14"
    V2
    W3J
    A8js
    A8jp

All of these laptops do have dedicated graphics and can game decently with the exception of the V2 which only has an X1450 video card. The rest of them have X1600, X1700 and Go 7700.

When comparing quality you will want to look at the W3J, V2, V1JP and even the G1 which is plastic, but sturdy.

You will also need to look at how much time you want to wait, also price you want to pay. Also consider portability, and where you plan on using the the notebook, school, home, work and etc.

I hope this clarifies some for you.

And also, don't mind to choose between these, they are almost similar (though owners of X1700 have been complaining about driver support)

Ah yes, the X1700 is technically not supported by ATI, but there are drivers, like Catalyst 7.1 and 7.2 that seems to work for many. Have a look at this thread.

And those who own Nvidia graphics complain of the lack of Vista support. However these problems should all be alleviated in time.

Is this X1450 similar to GeForce 7400?

According to this site, Click Here it shows the X1450 is quite decent when compared to other low end GPUs.

    X1450
    3DMark06 1200

    X1400
    3DMark06 900

    Go 7400
    3DMark06 800

Overall it shows a 40-50% performance boost compared to the X1400 and 7400, also the clock speeds are high, so that would also cause the synthetic benchmarks to be higher.

It would be interesting to see how well it does in gaming when compared to the X1400 and Go 7400.

As long as it's better than X1400 or Ge7400, I'm happy with it. Not a series gamer, so I'm happy with V2 (X1450) :)

i played CSS on default settings on my ex-dell (m1210) that came with the go 7400 and it was more than adequate... though i guess being able to play CSS doesn't mean anything as it's not as graphics-intensive :p

    oh well, just sharing.
