Are they almost the same? V6J is 15" while w3J is 14" right?

    Which one is better?

It depends for what kins use usage. Though they can be put in the same category.

It's like comparing apples to apples - do you want a Cortland or a Red Delicous?

Do you want a little more screen or a little more gaming power?

Either way you get a tasty apple.

    Mmmm apples.

Very good metaphor. He is absolutly correct, each of these two machines are going to give you a good run for your money, but each has specific pro's and cons.

Ill do a quick run down

    W3J Versus V6j
14.1" widescreen vs 15.1" regular aspect,
Color Shine vs Color Shine / Crystal shine
    256mb ati x1600 vs 128mb nvidia 7400, (256 hypermemory),
    1.83 duo vs 1.66 duo
    1.18" - 1.28 thickness vs 1-1.2" thick
    $1799 vs $1899

The rest of the specs are identical

Now from looking at the spec's and prices alone, clearly the w3j is the winner. But there are other factors that must be taken into account.

    1) Screen personal preference: If the w3j had a 15.4" widescreen, I would have been in ectasy. This is probably the main reason why most people chose the v6j over the w3j.
    2) Design: I personally think the v6j is more beautiful than the w3j, and aesthetically that would be another big reason to chose the v6j over the w3j.

As said before, its all about what you are using it for. Dont let the w3j's specs intimidate you, the V6j is a hell of a beast as well.

I would go w3j but hey I am already a believer as I am on the preorder list and waiting to get it in the mail...

Honestly though, I went with the w3j for the X1600 gpu. If gaming isn't a big deal, if you would like a bigger, better screen, and a prettier lappy go with the v6.

You can't have ColorShine without CrystalShine... if the screen is glossy, it'll have both.
However, you can have CrystalShine without ColorShine... It can be high brightness without the glossiness (e.g V6V screen)

Some have said that the V6J is of a higher build quality...

Some have said the palm rests of the V6J will not rub away as quickly...

I don't have a W3 or V6 yet, but I will be buying one of the two when they all get in stock...

I've been jumping back and forth between the W3J and V6J, so here are the things I looked at:

The W3J is more powerful: for the same price as the V6J, you get a slightly more powerful processor and a much better graphics card
The V6J is built better: especially on the inside where there is the brushed aluminum, the V6J will put up with normal wear and tear much better than the painted W3J, although they are still both built excellently
The V6J has a bigger screen: while the width is the same, it's about 1" taller which gives you some more space. It also has a higher native resolution for more desktop space. A downside to the screen size (based on my understanding) is that in order to power that extra 1" of space, it uses a little more battery life.
The V6J is thinner: using length x width x depth, the V6J is 1" wider, but is also very thin which gives it nearly the same weight as the W3J with the benefit of a larger screen.

In the end, it's up to you. Both are excellent machines. Overall, it's basically a matter of aesthetics vs. power. Just keep in mind what you need.

There is also tons of speculation that the W3j is going to be really hot. I havent kept up on the reviews of the W3j (I have the V6j) so that might be something to consider.

And for those looking at this thread without wanting to read the other threads, the reasoning behind the heat speculation is the idea of A) having a faster Duo and B) having a more powerful video card ALL inside a tiny little case... Not a lot of room for heatsinks and fans...

    Isn't the V6J heavier too?

    Yes, it is heavier...
it's thinner, but it's still larger. The W3 and V6 basically have the same width... but the V6, since it's a 15" regular ratio screen, it is deeper than the W3 (about an inch or so).

When it really comes down to it though... they're about the same weight... with the V6 being just slightly heavier I believe.

If I remember right, you all are splitting hairs on the weight. You will probably never notice the difference in the weight in the everday use and carrying of it. Darktiger is right about the speculation, with similar sizes, more powerful components means more heat buildup - plus the W3v was pretty notorious for being really hot (I believe more so than the V6j). I didn't think the V6j got to be bad stock - I am running a 7200 RPM right now, so it is warmer - but not a problem when I am just typing a paper with it on my lap.

Caleb, how much warmer is your 7200RPM? I've been thinking upgrading my 4200RPM to 7200RPM

If I am just using it for typing notes in a class or working on a paper with P4G set to the office setting, it isn't noticable. When I have it plugged in and am running lots of stuff on super power - it gets pretty warm. I don't have trouble with that thought, because when its on super I am using my Logitech MX3100 wireless desktop, so my hands aren't near it. I also built a homade cooling base/laptop riser with two fans totaling about 65 CFM of air, so I can pump some air through it and cool it down if need be. I think it was worthwhile, but I keep thinking about going back to the stock drive because she is fast enough as is, and then I don't have that **** clicking all the time - it bugs the **** out of me.
