I have been considering the W3J for quite some time and I will be making a purchase before January but I have some concerns. Namely, will the screen on the W3J be too glossy for an office environment? Any personal experience with this would be helpful.
Thanks!

I have found that the overhead fluorescent lights often present in the office environment are not friendly toward glossy screens. You can adjust, and it's not as much of an issue when the brightness is cranked up as that cancels out some of the glare. It's not as nice when running on battery. A matte screen is generally more office-friendly as well as looking more "professional"--that is a matter of debate, though.

I have a flourescent light in my room, and maybe its just that it isn't as intense as in most offices (not sure), but it isn't a problem with my V6j when plugged in, just get the angle and brightness right. I wouldn't think its a reason to not get the W3j.

Well... running on battery.... someone needs to know how to up the brightness. Power4Gear will allow you to set up different profiles for different situations... namely, when you're on battery, they want to drop the backlight to give you the most like possible... but you don't need to leave it there. IF you're going to be on battery, you can still give it 100% backlight... the battery just won't last for ever... But the backlight on it is certainly capable of surviving in an office environment..... unless some idiot did the lighting design and there is far too many candle power focused right on your desk...... Since most companies would under do it to save money....... I doubt that would ever be a problem.

I realize that there are ways to turn up the brightness while on battery. As you mentioned that decreases the battery life. A matte screen will be easier on the eyes with lower brightness in an environment with overhead lighting.

Thanks for the responses. At work, it will always be plugged in. Only time not is any usage at home in bed, on my couch or near my central stereo - where obviously I have control of the light. So if I turn up the brightness to where there is less glare, is it going to be too bright and become bothersome at some point?
The office I will be using for the next year has a mix of skylights and overhead light, and a window that I actually would be in partial direct view of. Lots of natural light during most of the day. However, I live in Seattle so its not exactly sunny all the time.
My problem is "most" of the powerful machines out there are glare type screens versus the matte. I have considered getting an external monitor for work and just having it as a business expense but that is a couple hundred that I was hoping to not spend.
Any other opinions on this subject? -
I use my W3J in my office. There's a big window at my left, a table lamp at the left side of the W3J, and another lamp in the ceiling right above my head. Too glossy? Never!

I use my W3J at work every day, it is fine (see the attached picture)
The only problem I have ever had, was when I was in another office and it had large double volume windows behind me, but then there was glare on my desktop LCD as well which is matte?
Generally you wil be ok, you will only have a problem if you have astrong light source behind you. -
Ha Aaron nice office you work at... Is it you in the picture?

Ha Ha yeah it is a brand new office, but for a design firm its a bit corporate, yeah its not me, I was the one taking the photos, me and a few friends got bored one day after work and had a bit of a competition to see who could stack up a line of markers the highest....... and we ended up with this......
