I noticed a couple people posted about freezing issues they were having when the w3j goes into standby or hibernation. I'm having the same issues and I'm wondering if anyone has been able to resolve this? If you're have the same problems post about it here so I can bring this tread to their attention when I call Asus again about the problem. I'm not looking to simply disable standby/hibernation as I'd like to be able to use these modes. Anyway, I'd like to hear what people have to say. Thanks.

I saw a previous thread that said to disable the hard drive timout, which I did, and it seemed to correct the problem on mine. You do that by right clicking the icon next to the clock that is your current power setting and selecting "configuration". Then under each power setting is a description of what it does to your computer. Double click Hard Drive timer and select "never". Save configuration for each power setting. Good luck

Would anyone happen to know of anyway to solve this without disabling the drivetime out, like the OP, I would also like to use these features without the lockup issues.

I have the same problem. I think everyone was. Does the above "solution" just make it so the HD never shuts off when the lid closes?

It makes it not shut the HD down whenever there is "no activity" at the laptop and it starts shutting down items like the screen, HD, etc to conserve battery power.

Sounds like a similar problem I had with my Asus Z63a. I don't know if it's the same problem, but I would get an error message whenever I tried to hibernate and sometimes my machine would lockup when resuming from hibernate. It ended up being a Windows problem that was fixed with a hotfix:

I have never been a standby or hibernate fan. If I'm not using it it's on. If I'm not using it at night when I'm sleeping its off. ;)

I hibernate/standby frequently. It's almost a disservice NOT to use it. Why wait 30-45 second for Windows to boot up and wait for the hard drive to finish churning while all of your startup applications load when you can press a key and resume from standby in 5 seconds? Or resume from hibernate in 10 seconds?

I also like being able to open up my laptop and be right where I left off. It's just to convenient to ignore IMHO.

The problem with the w3j's is not that windows hotfix problem as they already come with the latest service pack. I heard about that and tried downloading it to no avail. Anyone else have this problem.

I'm having this problem with an A7J, except it happens even not in standby - I have the settings set to turn off the monitor after 15min, and every now and then, the screen won't turn back on when I move the mouse or press a key. I have to close the lid to hibernate or shut it down, and start it up again. I know the computer doesn't freeze completely - I can use keyboard shortcuts to start programs with the screen still off, and they do start (HD activity, and they show up if I hibernate and start again). This sounds like the same problem with slightly different variables, so I would also like to know if any other users have experienced this in one way or another, and if anyone has solved the issue.

Latest bios is out for w3j. That fixed the standby issue
