If you guys were around last year, ASUS is always late for their shipments![]()

Justin,
When will you start charging our credit cards for the W3J advanced order? Just wondering because the pending charge is no longer on my credit card and i still haven't been charged. -

The Z62j is a decent system, but has nothing on the W3j... .really.. It's the chassis of the Z62f with dedicated graphics (not as serious as the w3j).... but it'll be configurable and a viable option for many.
Some cards have already been processed....... more to follow........ there is a significant order list and I'm handling them all myself.... so... soon. -
Justin, does ASUS put out an uglier laptop just because they don't want it to compete with their W3J ensemble line? That stinks!!
Also, how come none of the larger high end ASUS' come with a webcam (W3J, V6J)?
Oh and, will the video card in the Z62j add any considerable weight to it?
Thanks! -

The barebones shouldn't be considered "asus" and asus doesn't want them to be........ they're meant to be a good system that is sort of disposable..... not that they are **** by any means, but they are part of intel's initiative to make most all components of the system interchangable.... so not just the cpu, ram, hard drive...... but the optical drive, battery, lcd, and chassis panels...... Basically Asus is working with a chassis design that is supposed to be common to many companys... so a few years from now you can just buy a battery anywhere.... or even maybe change your chassis to that of another model or even another make.....
The custom built-on's are just average everyday systems and Asus really doesn't want much credit for them. They've always been the "brand" of the company who builds them out and Asus will continue to focus on ensembles.....
The GPU is a chip and it really isn't going to weight more than a few ounces more than a Z62f. -
Ahh.. I see now, so built-on is like Asus' ugly stepson, born out of wedlock
Actually, I'm thinking the Built-On will be less of a target for thieves at university so... that's good in a way..... but then
I want something pretty to look at !!! wahhh
-
Also you can't fault them for the Built On line - Asus is an ODM - why not sell ODM type versions for a lower cost while also offering their Ensemble Premium line.
Product line differentiation is the same that the Toyotas/Lexus' of the world do, as to the Gap/Old Navy...it makes good business sense. -
Yea, it makes quite alot of sense, and at first, it was kinda confusing and didn't make sense, but if we look at it, it's an aggressive but quite sucessful move.
edit: They've helped built businesses, but, more importantly(to themselves), added something else to their resume -
-
But don't you guys think the delay will hurt ASUS's popularity? I mean, if they are trying to build market share in N. America, it makes sense to get a product out as soon as possible so as not to have competition from other vendors. I know Sony has had problems meeting demand for their Vaio series with a smaller LCD and hard drive, which some have attributed to chipset problems, but wouldn't it be in ASUS's best interest to pump out enough W3J's to meet projected demand (assuming, of course, that ASUS actually listens to its resellers...)?

Perhaps that, there were some last minute fixes, I rather get a unit thats late, that WORKS, not one laddened with problems...

i cant wait. i want one now. dool.

ETA 20 more days before projected arrival of the W3j in North America.

Here's a question for all regarding W3J issues...
Would we need to download the fix for the Core-Duo USB problem, or would this be incorporated into the production model? -
Are we supposed to receive everything we ordered in one shipment or multiple? For example, I ordered the W3J, Corsair 1GB memory, optical drive battery, and the extended warranty.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Right... everything for the most part will come in one package...... some people did order a lot of extra stuff, but in my experience, there's room for an extra AC adapter, a 2nd battery, an extra stick of ram and the extended warranty package....... if you got more than that, then it may come seperately. Some people like A-lit above ordered some other bigger items so he got all of this accessories last week with that shipment, but everyone else should get their's with their notebook.
.... good question though. -
Is it possible that the W3J will arrive at the same time as the 2nd shipments of
A6jc on 4/17? -

Curse you ASUS curse you!!!
On a side note I am leaving my apartment for two weeks beginning May 1st. I ordered one of the first shipment W3Js. If it is going to arrive before the 15th of May is there any way we can get it shipped to another place than the one which was specified in the order?
P.S. I did order from proportable of course -

Second shipment on W2's and W3's are looking more and more like early June every day. But as Danny updated, the W3/W2 shipment is supposed to arrive at Asus in Fremont on the 1st or 2nd.... They have NOT left Taiwan yet and Taiwan only just confirmed they couldn't get the systems built in time to make that shipment during the first week of this month. So that does throw off the planned delivery times, but Fremont blames Taiwan and I'm sure Taiwan doesn't care.... but they are still coming.
-
OH man....this is bordering on cruel (though not unusual).
-
Didn't ASUS foresee the popularity? They had NO idea it would be this popular? Is their manufacturing capacity limited in some manner?
-
Not trying to complain, btw. So it's delayed. I deal with delayed gratification like it's going out of style.
-
=( this is saddening
-
Taking a more positive approach, it does kind of prolong the suspense and anticipation - I'm the type that always kind of needs something to be looking to buy so in some way, this is like a forced savings plan.
-
I think the wind just left my sails...
Honestly though, the first week of May is what Justin told us his "optimistic" eta was - I just hope they do make it the 1st or the 2nd - that would be wonderful. When you're in our position I guess you just hope/expect a miracle.
I am obsessed. Obsessions are never a good thing. D*mn this obsession... -
actually in taiwan we didn't see any store have W3J expect some online shopping(like pchome)
and many store said that they'll get it after 4/20(ideal situation, and ASUS never made it before) -
some sites dont in taiwan dont even have the w3j up yet
-
Well, looking on the bright side - at least I got into the first shipment, 'cause otherwise I may not have it before school. I almost never expect these things to go off without a hitch, so I'm not overly dismayed. Hell, if it shows up early it'll be a welcome surprise. I'll just have to keep myself occupied until then :::twiddles thumbs:::
-
Seems like it gets puished back each day! I have a friend whose friends with a vendor here in San Diego and he promised me the beginning of April I would have it... So I returned my Sony Vaio and now... nothing but a whole month more of anticipation!
-
Well I remember way back when there wasn't a production date and no word on when one would be announced. That was torcher.
At least now we know that they are built and the only thing that separates us from our W3J is distance and time. They missed one ship date but they are going to make the next ship date. Thats good enough for me. -
So what is the expected release date now for the W3J's?

the first shipment is roughly first of may..... i think... and the 2nd shipment is mid-late may.
Thanks,

The reason why I switched over from the Vaio... well, the new touch mouse among the x1600 and much much more.... Ahhhh, anticipation makes you want it more and more. Just hope when I get it that it won't dissappoint. -
"the bad news.... Asus has confirmed that given their shipment date (which is supposed to leave tomorrow), we're looking at them arriving into customs during the first couple days of the month, which puts them a few days off from getting to Asus, and then a few days for them to get here. My best estimate would see us shipping on the 8th or 9th....... not all that bad, but I know that some of you have or need changes to your orders if you can't recieve it before the 10th..... right now I think it's safe to say you won't be getting it by the 10th."
Quoted from ProPortable.
Man, it really does get pushed back day by day =) S'all good. Just hope I don't change my mind and go for the Toshiba M100. -
PROPortable Company Representative
It really doesn't get pushed back day by day..... Taiwan hasn't given US an update for more than 3 weeks...... so it's been speculation on everyone's part..... not exactly just pulled out of thin air.... they've been educated guesses based on the best information... but now that Taiwan has finalized everything, they should be on the sea this weekend and from that point Taiwan can't hold them up!
-
AMEN to that bro =) Can't wait... finally...
It's like going on a blind date (even though I've seen photos from TheKingDavids) but... still... can't wait for that moment!!! -
PROPortable Company Representative
haha... yeah well the photos don't lie and since it's just a refresh, I can tell you that it's beautiful in real life and there are plent of W3v customers who could back that up...
