I've just reformatted my W3J (2.0Ghz Core Duo model) and everything seemed to be going OK until I tried to run it on battery power. As soon as I unplug the power cable, the notebook shuts down, reboots, almost loads Windows, before repeating the process over, and over, and over. Same thing happens when I try to start the computer without AC power.

Not sure if it's related, but the system also takes forever to shut down.

P4G is installed and loads when Windows starts. I've checked all the Windows power management settings...

Any idea what would be causing this?

    Josh

I am using the newest Omega video drivers...Could this be the cause of the problem? I am doubtful as it doesn't even seem as though Windows loads before the system shuts down. It reaches a black screen with a cursor, then powers off.

Drivers gone, and the problem seems to be gone with it.

I'm currently installing the drivers from Asus' disk, which are woefully out of date.

    Problem fixed.

Laptop still hangs on "Windows is Shutting Down" for several minutes, which is unusual considering it is a fresh install.

Hi Josh, the problem has been posted here before and I believe a fix was discussed. If you use the Search function in the upper right hand side of the Asus forum, and type in a similar search string, I believe you should be able to find it fairly easily.

That's right roboh, I suggest that all W3J owners use the 6.8 Catalyst drivers since most people report that this driver works well with the W3J and is very stable.

Also some people have had luck with the 6.12 drivers aswell, but stick with 6.8 since it is really reliable and offers good performance aswell.

    Not the Omega Drivers.

My roommate put them on his Thinkpad trying to run Doom 3 on the Mobility 7500... I spent a week cleaning the results off for him to get it back to normal.

Does ATI plan to improve their drivers anytime soon? It seems that every updated driver released has issues and more bugs than the previous releases..
