    Hey,

I just put in a CD to install my logitech webcam, follow -all- the instructions... and the very last step when it tells me to plug in the webcam so it can detect it, I do so... and then nothing happens. It never is able to detect the webcam after it tells me to plug it into an usb port (i tried all 3).

    Same thing with the web-driver.

And, also... windowsXP tells me "there was a problem when installing this device, it may not work properly".

    :( :( :(

well the windows error is because you haven't been able to install the drivers properly so don't worry about that..

to check wether its the USB ports or the camera.. try some other device in the usb ports and see if it works.. if it doesn't then.. you're out of luck and you might want to send your w3j in for repair.. otherwise if you see the USB ports are functional.. then its most likely the camera

HOWEVER to give you some hope.. i had something like that happen to me as well... but i just reinstalled everything and its half working now.. i dont really know whats wrong

usb ports work fine after testing mice and keyboard... and the thing is, i dont think camera is broken either because it detects the microphone part of the camera fine (+ it works, i tested recording my voice) but the webcam video part doesnt! wtf....

uninstall those ones with '!' , start with the bottom two , try reinstall , and work your way up if the installation doesnt work...

see you've just about solved the problem yourself :)

Okay, I just tried installing the webcam on my roomates toshiba laptop, and it worked fine!

    What gives!!!! :( :(

Just tried using different usb ports (and they WORK for certain, my external mouse and keyboard work through them) and it still doesn't work.

I uninstalled ALL the ? and !'s from device manager, and rebooted...
upon system startup, windows just auto detects and says usb device found..etc etc, then i go to control panel/device manager and the ! and ? are back...

Then, I try to install the webcam using the CD (which WORKED on my friends toshiba laptop) and it does its full install... then prompts me to reboot (LIKE ON MY FRIENDS LAPTOP) ... so I click yes and reboot, then on the startup... it tells me to plug in my webcam. I do so, then windows starts giving me messages like "usb device found" then "Logitech Quickcam Found"... then

"There an was error in installing your hardware. It may not work properly".

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling 8 times now, and I get the same thing each time (on different usb ports).

Then I uninstall ALL the webcam drivers, and reboot the W3J... same thing on startup, windows says it detects a usb device (even though nothing is plugged in!!) and then asks me if it can search for drivers... i click next/next/next and then it says "there was a problem installing your device, it may not work properly"

    ARG ????????

Im going crazy here, please someone help!

tthen its definitley the logitech drivers problem.. i've found them to be VERY crapy recently (for ALL their products as ALL my peripherals are logitech - i USED to be a fanboy lol)

just keep trying different versions of quickcam and see what works.. right now the one thats working okay for me is Quickcam 9.5.. only thing is my computer freezes on boot up if my camera is plugged in which is really gay

    anyways good luck
