I was cleaning my room. My BB rifle from my bookcase fell down and landed directly on my poor W3J. Now, it has a small scratch on the lid. Can I somehow replace the metallic part of the lid? Im asking this not only because seeing the scratch bugs me, but also im looking for a way to prevent it from expanding(the scratch).
Good thing the accident did not affect the LCD or the performance of my Asus. Shows that these laptops are solid and can withstand moments of stupidity.![]()

Unless you buy a new lid, and replace it yourself(which may be expensive, the magnesium lid for my V6 costs $55, not sure how much a brushed aluminum one costs), there isn't much to do, but live and learn

hmm.. ill check the prices.. i was thinking of just covering it with a sticker.. Oh well, it is still a very sexy and capable machine(even with the scratch).

I went to the asus online store ( http://estore.asus.com/shop/search.asp) and I was looking for a replacement lid. The site has no pictures to display , so I didnt know which part name is lid. Can anyone help?

thanks.. one more thing.. How difficult will it be to replace the metallic lid? Does it require special tools or skill?
-
No idea, and since there probably isn't any guides, since it rarely happens. You're probably on your own...

How would a scratch expand on a Metal lid?
-
Looking at my w3j, im thinking you have to remove the rubber circles around the screen where you will find screws holding it in place. Atleast thats the only way i think you can remove the lid. Thats how you get to the screen in a dell, and eventually the lid, im pretty sure thats how you would do it for this one.

rhcpcrony is right... you'll have to remove those rubber screw covers. Most likely, you'll also have to detach the LCD from the rest of the chassis.
-
Yes. Don't attempt that without a disassembly manual, since it is very tricky, there are a lot of things to be done in a precise order.

hmm.. sounds complicated.. ill just live with it i guess.. ill just get a sticker that works with the gray lid of my w3j to cover it.. thanks for your help guys

If you fins a metallic sticker it should not look so bad. For instance http://www.cafepress.com/buy/tribal...878/pNo_55759878/id_11958249/opt_/fpt_/c_360/
