For those that have tried everything and still haven't had success finding a solution to these issues:
When I first received and setup my W3J, I too was having these weird issues. I've tried various settings, changing drivers, converting to NTFS using the supplied converter on the desktop, reformatted using the recovery disk.. but none of those helped. So I thought... maybe it could be something with the factory/stock installation.
I then grabbed my own copy of WindowsXP Pro, did a clean complete reformat, and set up my own partitions (both NTFS)... Problem solved.. I've been able to successfully bring my W3J out of standby and I haven't experienced anymore lockups since.. even during heavy gaming.
I know that this is not a practical solution, since not everyone has their own separate copy of Windows.. But for those that do.. try reformatting. It surely did help. Now my W3J runs perfectly, especially after trimming down the processes too.
Hope this helps. Goodluck!![]()

other then the issues of the lockup out of stand by are you happy with your asus?

Oh most definitely... This is the second Asus notebook I've owned (Z70va before), and I must say that their quality is just great. I highly recommend Asus.

Well some people have reported to disable the HDD time out in all power4gear settings running on battery mode which fixes resuming from standby and hibernation (which fixed the problem for me)
Another point though, I just installed a 160gb Seagate 5400.3 last weekend and reinstalled windows using the Asus CD and drivers CD that came with the W3J.
I installed with one partition, and NTFS, an since then I have gone into and out of standby (by clicking space bar) and out of hibernation (by pressing the poser buttin once) without any problems, it works fine now.
So maybe it is something to do with the twin partition or Fat formatting?? -
And.... I just played a DVD for the first time since reinstalling my new drive and the Asus DVD software runs smoothly, without stuttering every 20 sec!!!

Update: After installing my own copy of WinXP Pro in my upgraded 160GB Seagate HD a few days ago... all the issues are non existent. Been testing for a while now. I guess those issues really have something to do with the factory installation of Windows.

If you are back to factory nstallation with recovery CD, the HD's format is still FAT32. You need to convert to NTFS to FAT32 again. If you have your own Windows CD, you can manually choose NTFS or FAT32 and more flexible during the installation.

The XP Pro CD key wil not work, but can you use the XP Home CD key or is it already Activated on another computer?

This is the one thing that burns me about new computers, the lack of an actual Windows CD. Is there no way to get a proper Windows CD from ASUS? It looks like if you use the Recovery CD, you just get a stock image that's reapplied to the laptop and no option of what drive format you would like.
I'm very picky and will probably just reformat using my own copy of Windows XP Pro, but this feels like a waste to me. My current laptop came with a Windows install CD that worked great and didn't have anything besides plain old Windows on it. I have heard that other companies will ship you a real CD if you request it, will ASUS do anything like that? -
-
Well, it's good to see I'm not the only one, but not so good that ASUS makes no concession for this sort of thing. I was actually very happy with my HP because it came with no Restore CD, instead it had install CDs for all of the software. I wish more companies would follow this example. I'm not sure if HP still does this, but it was a great feature anyway. I think it's probably not too useful to the average PC user and this is why ASUS doesn't bother with it.

That is the way all Compal, Quanta, MSI and Built on Asus models come when purchased from us with the PowerPro or Crown brand on them.
You get a Windows CD that is OEM licensed but is otherwise the same as a retail boxed version. You also get a drivers CD, and the DVD viewing and NERO burning software CDs. No bloatware. You can do exactly what you want with that package.
