I'm ready to buy the W3J right now, I need it for school in 10 days and I've gotta take the time to configure it before then. I've been ready to buy for about a week, yet it seems like nobody has this notebook. I've checked geared2play, proportable, gentechpc, and newegg. Proportable and gentechpc say early to mid august, while newegg and geared2play indicated they might recieve shipments today... guess not.

Does anybody know of a reliable retailer that has it instock? MilestonePC seems like they might have them instock, but I'm pretty hesitant on them, considering their website doesn't even seem to be constructed decently (shipping and returns link points me to an empty page, etc.)

Thanks, I'm on the East Coast USA btw.

Edit: Also, I know there is a resellers list in the FAQ. However I'd like to stick with bigger name companies so I shy away from picking one that I haven't heard of, and I'd rather not go through and read resellerratings for each company.

Well, MilestonePC has a pretty good reputation for service around these forums... and Danny especially has always been very helpful..... they have just opened their US ops within the last few months, maybe that's why the site is still not working properly?

Asus' shipment of W3j's is expected in Fremont in about a week..... They've most likely reach port already, but from that point there's a lot of red tape. I know that we're currently holding a half dozen W3's for an international customer who is taking an extra long time wiring us funds. If that transaction isn't completed within the next two days, we're going to contact backorder customers for purchase....... other than that, if there were some physically available somewhere, we'd have some.

zipzoomfly.com appears to have them in stock. Very reliable retailer. Only potential drawback is you can't customize it *shrug*

Hm thanks, I might give zipzoomfly a shot. I know tigerdirect catches flack for their rebates, not sure how their support is. I'll read up a bit about these two. Thanks.

Keep in mind that ZZF and TD are likely going to have to get their units from Asus NA in Fremont just like all the resellers, so "in stock" doesn't necessarily mean "ready to ship immediately".... I would bet that they don't physically have any units on hand either :(

Thanks for the reality check. I'll call up zipzoomfly tomorrow and see if I can get a definite answer out of them. TD I think I'll avoid altogether, I've heard too many poor opinions of them, and their low resellerratings doesn't help.

Is the shipment REALLY coming this week? I've got one on order from ZZF as they claimed to have it in stock, but actually didn't. Need it for school in a big way.

I' still haven't preordered mines yet. Since supposedly they will have enough to go around. :( Hope so. Half a Dozen does not seem like a lot. I would have expected more. I might order the one from tigerdirect (only if they actually have them) but seems that their 1GB of Ram is a (512x2) I want one from the new batch. Hopefully G2P or Proportable or even Agear will have some after they fill their back orders.

Hopefully they arrive before the August 20th. I start school on the 22nd.

    Edit:

Wait Milestone, you say that we get free shipping on the W3J, how come on your site it only lists the others except the W3J. Unless this was a mistake. I can't argue with your price though.

NewEgg had them in stock for about an hour today... I was waffling on ordering one or not and now that I was about to commit... they're out of stock again!!!! :(

It will be very hard to get W3J without pre-order, as far as I know, this week shipment of W3J ( happened on Monday ), I have talked to 3 Asus distributors, one of these 3 didn't get any at all, the other two disti, each of them got 2 units, hard to believe? but it is true.

The explaination from Asus was: unitl recently, W3J, A8Jm, W7J didn't have good market, but all of a sudden, all sold, Asus didn't have a prediction of this, didn't have enough time to make more, when is the next shipment, not sure, maybe one week, maybe end of Aug.

In Canada, we got 13 units W3J H0026 from this week shipment, this is a HUGE qty in the current W3J market. I believe Canada only got 15 units of W3J from this shipment.

So milestone are you saying that the W3J's for sale on your U.S. site are actually pre-orders and not stock?

The base price is nice but those shipping rates are killing me. $100 for overnight? $56 for 3 day? Jeebus Christmas! Not to mention UPS... not my favorite carrier... had some very bad experiences with them before :(

    that really blows....

Thought ZZF would be good to go. Oh hum, delays kept me from the Dell 1210M too.

Anyways, doesn't the resellers tell ASUS how much they need? I thought that was how it worked. So ASUS is sending them by three's to the US. Seems like a waste of money, they should have sent a whole truckload.

    Edit:

I was about to ask if I could buy from Canadian Resellers. Saw the price at Milestone, and decided I rather wait for the US version.

They have different products shipped together, always big shipment. It doesn't always work by telling them how many we need, last week, in US, I ordered 30pcs, I was told I could get 3 units only, but when I received them, I only got 2 units, that was why I always say it is hard to get W3J without pe-order no matter you like it or not, that is the reality.

A8Jm and W7J are also similiar, we received 10 of each yesterday, I wanted to buy more, the answer was: sorry that is all we have, cannot sell you more.

The only problem I got with preorder, is that if I order now then I have to wait until the next shipment arrives, lets say that shipment only has 4 notebooks. And you guys have to fill in the other backorders. Then I have to wait anther 2-3 week for more. And what happens if they release a new W3J with Duo 2 Core. Could I recall my preorder?

At first I was trouble picking a notebook. Now I am having trouble getting the actual notebook.

Never knew notebook shopping was this hard and competitive. Can't wait till I get my precious.

In Canada, the cost of notebook is higher, because of more shipping and cross boarder expense involved, in Canada, we are just selling MSRP CD$2049(about the same with US MSRP $1799).

In Canada, we have better inventory of W3J, I am thinking to ship to US some of these, but the price will be higher than selling from our US office, I will do US$1799 plus US$80 flat rate shipping, anyone intrested, send me an-email.

That is true, but at least you have better chance to get it, otherwise, you can barely get it.

    I'll think about it.

What are the possibilities ASUS sends more in about a week to the US?

For that to happen, the units would have to already be in transit on the ship from Taiwan, and they probably aren't - but resellers may have info on that. Plus, the shipment would still need to then clear US customs, go to Asus NA in Fremont, ship to distributors, etc.... time runs out quickly when you're on a tight deadline.

Asus NA seems to get a batch shipment periodically; they aren't in constant transit like other retail segments - it has seemed like every 4-6 weeks for the W3j since its debut in May. I think you're probably going to be stuck waiting (along with many others; back-to-school rush and the unexpected popularity of the W3 looks like it's wreaking havoc with supply)..... sorry.

How much for your Asus? =P

Yeah, I guess your right, maybe after the back to school season, the W3J will be easier to find. I think I could wait about a week or so after school starts to get my W3J. But the sooner the better.
