Hi Everyone. While some of us are still waiting for the W3's to come in, here is something interesting to look at. A website in china posted some benchmarks for the W3N and W3V. Mind you this is a translated website so be warn that the words can be gibberish. Keep in mind that the specs are a little different than what us North Americans are getting. The deep purple line is the W3N and the blue line is the W3V benchmarks.

I think thats a fantastic comparison........ however, i think one that's off is that the w3n they tested only have 256mb of ddr333... where the w3v has 512mn ddr2 400.... I wonder if that made up most of the difference in the comparisons.......

    Thanks,
    Justin

Your right about the RAM. I think that the benchmark on each system should be taken as a score and not really true speed comparison because obviously the W3N has fewer RAM. One can look at the numbers on the W3V and say it scored such and such while the dell, acer, etc. with similar configuration scored such and such on the same bench if those result for the other systems are available elsewhere.

    Nice find Bean,

Wanted to see how the W3V compared to the Z71V in the video realm and found:

    Test System from Geared2Play
    Asus z71V (z7100vp)
Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 PCIE 128mb
    1gb (512mbx2) DDR2 533mhz Infineon chip
    Intel Pentium M 1.86ghz 533fsb
    60gb 5400rpm SATA Fujitsu 8mb cache
    2915abg WiFi Module
    Windows XP Pro SP2
Base drivers of the Original asus drivers cd
    No overclocking and no tweaking

    Test System from China
    Asus W3V
    Intel Pentium M 740(1.73GHz)
    512 MB DDR400 (Not 533)
    60GB (5400RPM PATA)
    14.1" TFT 1280x768
    ATI Mobility Radeon X600 64MB
    Intel 915PM
    4800mAh

    System Differences:
    2x512MB DDR2 533(z71v) vs 2x256MB DDR2 400(w3v)
    Nvidia Go 6600 128MB(z71v) vs ATI Mobility x600 64MB(w3v)
    SATA 5400 RPM HDD(z71v) vs PATA 5400 RPM HDD(w3v)

    Benchmarks
    z71v/w3v 3dMark 2003 = 4436 / 3006

    Hope this helps...

Interesting. That number seems to be similar to the number in the January article on Tom's Hardware where they tested the V6V. The 3DMark 2003 number there for the V6V was 3040 with 1 stick of 512mb 533mhz RAM. The V6V and the W3V should be similar, though Tom's numbers are with a 2.13mhz processor.

well 3d mark is just a test of the gpu, isn't it? So system ram and cpu shouldn't play a part in that at all.

    Thanks,

you're right, a little....... the V model is obviously going to put up better numbers regardless..... and I think we would all hope so anyway.... So it's really not that impressive to see as a comparison of the N vs V...... maybe a comparison of something that thats out there that people would be familiar with........ Maybe even a V6v.... because our reviews we had done should start to pop up soon......... but then again, the W3v should be getting virtually the same numbers as that..... Maybe a comparison against another system a lot of you guys have... an M6 maybe?

    Thanks,
    Justin

The ram and Cpu will effect 3dmark scores, for eg I got about and extra 500point in 2001 when I went from 512 to 1gb of ram on my M6Ne. While the improvements aren't huge they are there! Similarly the 3dmark score usually has some memory and cpu tests built in from memory which go to making up the final mark/score...it should be seen as a benchmark for overall system 3d performance not just gpu. Thats why when places like toms tests gpus they use the same hardware background. For eg a X800 gpu on a AMD duron 1000 with 128mb of ram will run like a dead dog, but in a AMD64 3000+ with 1Gb of ram it will be super quick. The X600 is pretty much identical to the 9700 thus there shouldn't be any huge difference in performance, the extra bandwidth of pci-x won't have any effect either, as the 9700/X600 still doesn't fully utilise the whole of the 4X agp.
Thus those differences look like memory to me more than anything else. But very nice find all the same
