If I understand correctly, the stated 4.6 lb weight is with the 8 cell battery but without the dvd drive. What is the unit's travel weight with the dvd drive and the 8 cell battery?

What is the weight of the power adapter?

Can the laptop be used together with the Valence saphion batteries?

    Thanks in advance.

    Richard,

The 4.6 pounds that Asus wants advertised internationally its with the 4 cell battery and traveleres drawer.

The US will ONLY get the 8 cell battery as "standard" and there is no saying whether we'll get the little 4 cell battery or not... but it's possible.

The dvd drive is about 1/2 pound
The bigger battery is about 1/2 pound heavier.

So, as this thing comes out of the box, it's about 5.4/5.5 pounds... but theoretically, you can get it down. It's about 5 pounds with the bigger battery and the travelers drawer.

    Thanks,
    Justin

It's about 5.5 lbs with drive and 8 cell battery from what I have read.

Can't help you on the other 2.

It's kind of misleading when they advertise everywhere as being 4.6. 4.6 to 5.5 is a lb increase which means a world of difference in the portable world.

    Peace!

Yeah, well the weight of the system is based on it's lightest workable configuration. Asus may bring in the optional 4 cell battery, so it's a possible usable weight. It's not like the unit is weighed without a battery or optical drive --- when you need a battery to power it and say the notebook doesn't have an blank drawer that can replace the optical drive......

    Thanks,

Justin, good point. Thanks for clearing that up. Plus I know how you pointed out before that other mfg's are a bit misleading too when reporting their numbers. I like how Toshiba reports a range so you know the MAXIMUM possible weight. Max here seems to be 5.5 which is cool.

    Peace!

Yeah... well the V6 is 5.5 pounds, but it ONLY has the option for the 8 cell battery and it's drive isn't removable...... so it's THE only weight....... I think I had the "weight range" put up on our site for the W3....... just so people fully understand. Companies like to give the lowest possible weight........ thinnest possible dimension...... longest possible battery life.....

For me... I start with the battery life that I usually get when using the machine. Telling someone it's possible to get 6 hours of life on a battery that under a normal to heavy use you'll get like 2...... you don't want people who don't understand the huge range in values like those to be dissappointed.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Justin is right, everyone puts the smallest of dimensions available. Dell, HP, all of them do it. In general most notebooks are listed at the weight without anything that is removable.
