I still dont quite understand the features about Intel Pentium M or Intel Centrino? to me i think that they are different processors?
If so on my W3v, theres intel centrino sticker pasted between ATI x600 sticker and windows xp sticker, but under my system properties it shows as intel pentium M, and it also says so on http://store.agearnotebooks.com/asusw3v.html and same goes to asus.com w3v's webpage.
So is it a intel centrino or a pentium M? or am i confused with the meaning of both of them? And also on agearnotebooks.com w3v's webpage, theres a pentium M sticker that isn't pasted on my w3v..
Please advice...

It is an Intel Centrino. However, the only difference between a notebook labeled Pentium M and one labeled Centrino is the wireless card.
A notebook with a Pentium M processor and the Intel Wireless card is labeled 'Centrino'. A notebook with just a Pentium M processor is labeled as being Pentium M.
Essentially, the only difference between being considered Centrino and being considered Pentium M is just the wireless card. There is no difference when it comes to processors. -

Correct....... It's been two years and Intel hasn't gotten through to everyone... it's ok.
Basically here's the story....... Intel pushes centrino and pushed that logo down your throat. You want to go out and get a centrino notebook and to prove it's a centrino most people look for the sticker. (It's illegal and almost impossible to build a system without an intel wifi card and still use the centrino sticker) ... this is becasue all systems must be tested with software from Intel. Essentially that's the difference.......
What Intel is really concerned about is companies selling say celeron systems, or just some really cheap $400 system and throwing a centrino sticker on it so people who don't know better buy it and pay 4 times too much for it.
Also, just because it doesn't have a centrino sticker doesn't mean it's not one. I know from our experience it took almost 8 months after centrino came out two years ago for us to get qualified to order those stickers and use them. Each one is like gold... you must account for each sticker on each system...... But just becasue you build centrino systems doesn't mean intel will let you use them either.
The real answer to your question is the W3 is a centrino system. It uses a Pentium-M dothan 533 and intels 915 chipset and intel's 2915 wifi card..... the 915 chipset is what is commonly referred to as "sonoma"... which is the 2nd generation of centrino.
Complicated, yes....... but I hope that helps.
Thanks,
Justin

...I didn't say I was ordering from you.
I'm ordering each of the parts myself (from another reseller) to build. And since each part is seperate, and I will be the builder, where does the Centrino sticker come in? -

I'd ask... why would you think that? .... but even from the quote you used, I certainly didn't reference anything like that.
All of our systems we sell today with the exception of the AMD models (Z80k and A6u) are "centrino" systems under their standard configurations....... basically the only way you WON'T get a centrino sticker from us would be if you changed the standard configuration to "no wireless card" ....... on all of our configuration pages it shows one of intel's cards must be used in order to qualify to recieve that centrino sticker.
So, the short answer to that is... you're wrong, you would get one with that configuration.

Justin

Does that mean from the Z71v barebone + P-M 750 + 2915 card parts I'm ordering, a Centrino sticker won't be included? [:0]Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

I can't speak for the world.... but I was quoted and then asked a vague question... I can only speak for ourselves.
You bring up a good point, but legally you should not get a sticker... and if you do get a sticker, intel should honestly be notified because the parts actually have to be bought as a complete notebook to qualify to put the sticker on..... regardless of the fact that you ordered the right parts.
Sorry if that's bad news (you might still get them even though intel would probably pay to find a company who's giving out centrino stickers like that) ....... but that's one of the things that you'll have to live with if you're going to build the system yourself. The sticker is only really there for people to know what's inside... since you're building it, you know what's in there...
Know what I mean?

Justin

Also, on a side note... there are plenty of people who don't even like to have a centrino sticker on their computer and remove theirs when they get them.... if you want one and you don't get one, i'm sure someone will trade you.

COunt me in that group -- I pulled all the stickers off my machine about a week after I got it. There was the Windows sticker, the Centrino sticker, and the ATI sticker. The W3v is such a slick-looking piece of equipment, but all those stickers made it look cluttered and cheap, so I peeled 'em all off. Looks much more elegant this way.... [8D]

You can buy a Centrino stcker off ebay []

Yeah... I agree with you guys... but seriously, we have to account for every sticker and all the rumors about nanotechnology gps trackers and stuff doesn't seem that far fetched when you get the rules about these things....
But last year ebay was a huge source for them.... I guess employees at the big computer makers were stealing them and auctioning them off...... some of the medium sized places were doing it too.... They were even playing somewhat by the rules.... every system must be documented... well what if you sell 100 systems and don't use the sticker on any of them.... your customer still gets what he ordered, you just don't give him the clutter of the sticker.... Then they were making up to $30 (that I saw.. i heard even higher) a sticker at one point...... They were making more on those than the systems they were selling. The people buying them for that much were obviously making $100's more selling people cheaper celeron and p4 systems and slapping a centrino sticker on it.....
it's the only thing that makes sense..
Thanks,
Justin
