Is anyone waiting for May 1st to get one more year on the warranty?
I have spent long time to decide whether or not to buy W3V but I decided to buy them when the final price was released. However, now I heard about the additional year of warranty and I do not know if I should order them right now or wait about 2-3 weeks. Anyone thinking about doing the same thing?

Asus will be starting a new program in May.... with select dealers.
I'm not sure who else will be on that list, but I know that we were asked if we would be on that list a month ago.
All you need is an invoice dated May 1st or later.
Thanks,
Justin

Justin makes it sound like he's in high demand... he thinks proportable is a good reseller... can't we just stop blowing smoke up his ass...

Lets put it this way...... we were asked our opinion on the new program...... and it's only going to be for a select group of dealers who do NOT reconfigure the ensemble line... so in that case, yes I do think we're special.
But I have no idea what your comment about thinking I'm in high demand... or about my company being a good reseller.... None of that made any sense.... so if you don't want to hear what I have to say... don't bother commenting about it... you're just wasting a post.
Thanks,
Justin

Like it or not, Justin is in high demand. *Paris Hilton impersonation* That's hott!
I remember bothering him with a plethora of questions a few months ago about the Asus M6 series, and he answered me in a matter of minutes. I think that says a lot about a reseller. Personally, I think ProPortable is a company who strives not only to provide consumers with high end products but more importantly educate their potential customers about the service and products they provide. Before I go off to college, I will be buying an Asus laptop from ProPortable, because to put it simply - they're a great reseller with great people like Justin.
I don't think I'm "blowing smoke up Justin's ass," I think, as do a lot of other people, that ProPortable is a good company who actually stands behind the products they sell. -

Many of you know I usually jump in when I find that Justin has posted something that I find is inaccurate and misleading. But first I want to also agree that Justin has been a great contributor to this forum. His technical understanding of the product has helped a lot of people with their decision on what to buy or on solutions to problems. I salute Justin for the time he spends replying to everyones post.
I do want to comment on a theme that Justin continually stress in his posts concerning dealer programs and Asus policies. He keeps stressing that the new Ensemble dealer program will only be for a select few dealers who do not modify the Asus Branded laptops and that somehow that makes him special. The requirements for the reseller program are in writing and are performance related. They make no restrictions on a dealers decision to offer modified Ensemble Asus laptops. We also have met all the requirements in this program and affirmed that we will be included in the program when it launches on May 1. I have also affirmed, in meetings with Asus that we do not in any way jeopardize our relationship with Asus if we modify the Branded Laptops. We feel that we offer a quality solution for those who want a customized, quality laptop with a 2 year Star Warranty and we will continue to do so.
I have asked Justin to correct this theme and to not be posting Asus marketing policies on the forum but he continues to do so. I think many will agree that it is not constructive to be posting this kind of information prior to it being officially announced by Asus or any company for that matter. I know that Asus feels the same way.
Im going to anticipate that in response to this post, Justin is going to Beg to Differ with me so I am going to post this simple challenge. That who ever is wrong on May 1, leaves this forum, not to return.
My wish is not to have Justin leave this forum. To the contrary, I only want the readers of this forum to get the best information available and to not be mislead by the statements of someone held in such high regard on this forum.
Thanks

First, let me say that I bought from Justin and that I will again. He's an outstanding resource. I personally feel that other resellers could do alot to attempt to step up to his level in this forum. He is dedicated to this forum, probably to a fault, but he means well enough.
What I do agree with is that it would be better for all including Justin, if he held back on some of the information he has given us. For people like me, I appreciated the info and as it changed so what, but others in this forum have taken offense. Sometimes, Justin is wrong (sorry buddy) but he's in the forum everyday answering questions, asking questions and learning like the rest of us.
NOBS why don't you get your own forum straight before you go around making challenges.

Although this is only my 4th or 5th post, I started reading when W3V was first discussed in this forum. I think contributions which Justin makes to this forum is far more than NOBS. It is not that Justin pressures people in this forum to buy from ProPortable but because we all (at least me) know how far he is going out of his way to help us, which makes us want to do business through him and choosing ProPortable over other Asus resellers. If he is posting informations which Asus does not want to release, that is wrong but what is so wrong about Justin being proud of his company and the services it provides. I do not think anyone has said directly that StarTech will not be included in this new Asus program. I want to do business with ProPortable because of the enormous amount of help I got from Justin with many small questions I had for him.

Hey guys... let me make one point clear....
Asus has made clear that any company who customizes the ensemble line will not be part of "authorized" list.. We'll see on May 1st obviously... but I really dont' care. I give you information from the horses mouth and as long as it's not covered under an NDA, I can release it.
Now.. of late I've felt like I've gotten the shaft from Asus as they continues to evolve certain things like the upcoming warranty programs and so forth....... but believe it or not, this forum has acted to evolve the program. Asus reads through these threads and takes into account everything all of us says and the responce it gets. Now, if I was used like a guinea pig, then I'll fee like like they took advange of me... but for the time being........ there is nothing I can do about that. But I made an agreement with this forum to give them the up to the minute news and information and as it changes, I'm not going to feel bad about it, but I'll inform people of what is going on.
......... welcome to our world...... this is what happens. When you only make 18 posts it's easy to say what could have been done differently.
We'll see what happens on May 1st.
Thanks,
Justin

Thanks. I wrote to Asus (because I wanted to keep things in writing) and I expressly asked about the new "premium protection plan" as they are calling it. I asked what dealers will be involved and told that it's only going to be for companies who do not customize Asus' preconfigured packages...
Well I have an email which no matter how many people I get to read it, they all come up with the same conclusion... That they were starting the program with the release of the W3.
On Friday 4/15 I wrote an email which read:
"What are the warranty implications? Are these customers going to get a 3 year warranty now? IF the warranty doesnt start till May, some people are going to hold off buying them .."
In which on the same day I got this in return:
"3) your users will get a 3-year warranty if system's sold without any upgrades; other customers who customize their notebooks, however, will not get the 3rd year warranty"
Now, last week when they decided to say this starts in May, I went back and basically copied the above directly from the email and said... you said this... this was an answer to my question. To which they claim to have missed the whole statement about "if it doesn't start till May".
So miscommunication, or a change of story? I ask Asus pretty consise questions and they answer them the same way, so I think I know what I read. At the same time, this isn't something that would hold up in court or anything.... so I don't think we can fault anyone, just hope that in the end they come up with something that everyone will benefit from.
Thanks,
Justin
