Hey folks, first post here, though I've been lurking for a while now. Just want to start by saying thanks for the wonderful reviews and posts, and for showing me the way to Asus laptops!

Anyway, I'd been looking for a sturdy laptop for school, driving myself crazy as most people here seem to when purchasing, when Newegg marked the W3V down to $1199. An old model, but great for my needs, and totally worth it at that price. I'd fallen in love with the W3 the moment I laid eyes on it, so I pulled the trigger and here it is.

Out of the box it seems flawless, with the exception of the battery having an ever-so-slight curve, causing it to stick out the back a few millimeters on the right side. It seems to have seated fine, despite moving slightly if pushed firmly, and I'm not terribly worried about it. I could find no reference to such a problem from searching, so my only questions are:

    1) Is this common?
    2) Is there any reason to see this as a problem, and if so, will Asus or Newegg replace just the battery?

Anyway, as stated it doesn't seem like a big deal, but I did want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

I don't think I'd call it normal, but it's the nature of the design of the battery and battery location that gives it a little bit of play. When you say a few millimeters, I almost wonder how you could see that. I doubt Asus would do anything - it's got nothing to do with newegg at all - but if you try to call anyone, I'd call Asus.

    Thanks for the replies.

A few millimeters is quite obvious on a surface that is supposed to be flush. I'll see what I can do for a picture.

you're probably not talking about a warped battery. The left side holds the battery in tighter than the right. I'm willing to bet that is exactly what you're talking about. Now, it really doesn't mattery and all batteries h ave some play, that's just obvious because of the location and the design.

If you built up the back of the hook that goes into the computer with say a tape... multiple layers of scotch (maybe 3-4), I bet it'll hold in closer.

Yeah, if you can push the battery in a millimeter or two - then this tape fix would work. That's normal, but I've found a way to may it perfect.... If that is in fact what's up with yours, try it and let me know. If you need help, l take a picture of your battery and I'll explain it.

I set the edge of the battery down on a flat table and there did seem to be a slight curviture, but I do think you're right about it not holding as firmly. I'll ponder the tape fix. I'm not sure I care enough for that, though it does seem like it would rub against the screen bezel if I tilted it back far enough.

Still working on those pictures, only have a phone to use and I haven't messed around with the Bluetooth to transfer them yet.

    Thanks again!

Yeah, well I certainly know the W3 and I can certainly tell you that there are little felt-like pieces under the screen which rub against that battery when opening and closing.... I don't think it causes a problem - if there was a gap there, it would probably look funny. I mean afterall, it's this whole "bamboo hinge" idea that the design of the system works off of....

I have the same issue with my battery... it seems to have a slight curve and doesn't sit flush when it's in, but it's still held in tight.

I don't think much of it... as long as the computer is working fine, I'm happy :)
