    Hello,
I've been backing up my games and videos onto Emtec 4.7GB 4x certified DVD-Rs, well the thing is why does my W3v only burn at 2x? Its a Mat****a UJ831D - firmware 1.0, i went google and found that other forum users are upgrading to higher firmware version to improve the speed. Had anyone tried tried updating their UJ831D firmware version?

I dont have a w3v or that drive but I can say that I had alot of prob's with my toshi drive in the M6 of mine. As long as the firmware is an offical release then upgrade away, you are allowed to do so and often its the only way to get improvements. The only other thing is to try some different media, slim drives are very picky, there should be some suggested media on the website for the drive and or in forums. Give those a try and see if your speeds increase.
I personally gave up trying to get my drive working and got an external dvd burner, best $$$ I ever spent, no more coasters and no more hassels.
