this just out of curiosity...i've been trying to get some use out of the IR port on the w3v. I have this old p3 sony notebook (one of those small PCX series i think) but unfortunately the little slot where you plug in the power cable is broken so i couldn't do anything with that. I don't have any other devices that use IR except for things like the tv/dvd/stereo etc.

I've done a good share of experimenting but haven't really gotten anywhere...has anyone been able to put the IR Port into good use like controlling home theatre components or better yet controlling the notebook with a standard IR Remote using the existing IR port?

This should be doable using WinLIRC (free) to read IR codes and Girder (commercial, but older freeware version girder329b.exe can be found with Google) to translate them into Windows automation tasks.
