Everytime I run my W3V for 5 minutes or longer, the screen freezes and then about 10 seconds later a blue screen comes up giving me all this mumbo jumbo numbers and letters, then in the middle it says your video card was stuck in an infinite loop. What could be the problem? I tried upgrading the video driver, but that just makes the video card make the laptop freeze even quicker (as soon as I turn it on it freezes), so I rolled back to the original drivers which seem not to freeze as fast. Also, I installed the latest bios from the Asus support site. Any ideas?

You have a W3V (with the dedicated ATI card)? I actually just got this error for the first time yesterday, but I have a Z63a with integrated Intel graphics. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much information on this problem. Microsoft says that you can work around this problem by disabling video hardware acceleration, but this is hardly a good long-term solution.

I got the error when I was grading a student's Java code submission in the Eclipse IDE. The problem occurs every time I try to run his code, but I've never had it happen otherwise. What processes are you running at startup? Did your laptop always freeze like this? Or maybe did you recently install some new software or hardware?

My W3V does have the dedicated ATI, plus I don't run anything at startup other than the software the laptop came with, but I do have Zonealaram startup in the beginning which I highly doubt affects this problem. The only new software I've installed is Winrar/zip, HP printer software, DC++, and a few media players, such as iTunes and Realplayer etc. and that's basically it. Also, why is disabling hardware acceleration not a good long-term solution?

Infinite Loop Video Driver Error... I haven't heard of this happening since the old days of Radeon 9500 on the DESKTOP platform. I don't recall ever seeing this happen on laptops...

Since others have NOT reported this problem, it sounds like you may have something installed that doesn't like your W3v :D

If I can recall correctly, there were registry edits that you could do to overcome this error.
    http://www.winguides.com/registry/

That may be a good place to check.

Sorry... all I meant was that if you permanently disabled hardware acceleration, then there'd be no real reason to have a dedicated video card in the first place. All video functions would have to be simulated in software, which puts more strain on the CPU. I guess it's not really a big deal if you don't do anything video intensive, but I don't really consider this a good solution, since it avoids the problem without really fixing it.

Disabling hardware acceleration worked for me as a temporary solution -- I just disabled it long enough to run the process that was causing the error, and then turned it right back on afterwards, since I never experienced this problem otherwise.

I guess the best thing to do would be to disable the processes that start when you boot Windows one at a time to see if you can isolate the problem. Otherwise, I guess you should reinstall Windows? I can't imagine that this is a hardware problem, and since no one else seems to be experiencing it, it seems like it's something specific to your software configuration, as AuroraS said.

Let us know if you figure out the problem.

I read someone with the exact same problem in a previous thread long long ago, but no one replied to it, so I'm not sure how much of an isolated case this is. Maybe we installed the same thing that messed everything up.

I just figured out that when I have the CHC set to Max. Performance the error doesn't happen, but as soon as I put it to something lower like battery optomized, it gets that darn error. How could changing those power settings affect the video card?

I had this exact problem with my W3V and I ended up talking to Justin from proportable. He suggested I hit F9 at start up and run a reformat that reduces the system to its factory defaults. So you may want to back up your data and try that.

That solved my problem in that area, but unfortunately I'm still having battery issues that I need to contact Asus directly about.

When you say reduces to factory defaults, do you mean all my data will be erased, or my settings will go back to default? And how do you know if you're undervolting?

Do you have Powerplay enabled in the video properties? Try disabling it...that's all I got....

I had this too with my W3V with the X600. I installed the latest Ati drivers, with no succes. The error kept coming back.

So I installed the Omega drivers (enhanced Ati drivers) and the problem was solved!

So my advice: try the latest Omega drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/

    If you don't know if you're undervolting...then you aren't :p
It's not something that the computer does by default.

Anyway, yes, Factory Default is the state in which your computer is in when you FIRST get it... just Windows and a few programs. I'm sure you probably don't want to do that...since you'll lose some personal data (i.e OH NO MY pr0N COLLECTION! :D )

I'd suggest trying what Sqall said... and try some new drivers.

I installed the omega drivers and now instead of the blue screen, the resoulution drops and I get an error saying that 'Your video driver ati2something has stopped functioning properly. Please restart your computer.' Sometimes the entire screen just turns off by itself and I cant do anything, it just goes black and the laptop stops functioning. What the heck could be the problem? Ive also recognized I never get this problem when Im plugged in with my adapter, so could it be im undervolting? I havent changed any settings or anything, but im just guessing it might have something do with that, i think, and if i am, what settings shall i change it to?

Reinstalling windows is your best solution now. After the reinstall all your doing is installing drivers. Make sure you dont install over the existing copy and not do a repair. Delete any previous partition. Take it one day at a time. Dont just start installing your your software. Somethng your putting on it is causing the software conflict.

I was having the problem whenever I had power4gear+ installed and running on battery mode. I uninstalled power4gear+ while on AC then found a replacement power management software RMClock, but most people like Centrino Hardware Control or CHC. I then reset the system, and havent had the problem since, but right before I did all this I did a complete recovery of the harddrive. So after I removed power4gear+ I then continued to update windows drivers, and installed the Omega drivers AFTER I uninstalled the ATI Tray program. I havn't had any problems since and am getting close to 4 hours of use out of a fully charged battery.

I was having the same problem on my w3v... but i solve this problem...
First update your windows....(you need a Framework packs form windows update (do not install framework v.3 only 1 & 2) ), then uninstal P4G, then your VGA driver.....
Download latest P4G and VGA driver, bios from official web site, install it... at my laptop everythink become just fine after that

    Hi, welcome to the forums.

I think the guy solved his problem, or threw away his laptop, a long time ago... the previous post is from 2005. :)
