Seeing as how the W3V has Swappable Bay support, shouldn't there be a way to somehow substitute a cooling solution in place of the swappable drive? For instance, optical drive cooling fan(s) made fit for the optical drive bay?
Anyone know of anything similar to this, or a similar alternative maybe?

Ye alternative is live with the heat. They are working right, the heat is normal. You need to live with it. There is NOT much you can do about it.

I've got a few ideas in my head, guess I'll have to take this one solo. I'm almost certain I can work something out, and my cousins great with custom parts so looks like I've got a project on my hands!

make sure you report back if you get it working..

Trust me, I look forward to it!
I am however going to be extremely occupied with the start of the new Fall semester and all, but I will def. consider this a priority whenever I find the time. -
why dont you just take that optical drive space saver, throw a fan in that thing and coonect to the power lines that the dvd would normally plug into. Instanct cooling solution

This is so ridiculous. I have to say you guys are helping and hirting. Every other caller asks me what we are doing to fix the overheat issue on the z63a. THERE IS NO OVERHEATING. You guys are just nuts. No offense....

I didn't want to bother posting in here and extending the life of this thread for exactly that reason Eddie..... until some people invest in some IR themometers and we set a level of what's "hot", the W3v gets "warm" at best and it's a powerhouse.... the Z63a.... come on.... I mean what cpu and hard drive could you use to make it "hot"? And if it's a 7200rpm and a 2.13ghz..... that should be stated off the top because that will make any notebook "hot".

The funny part is that the z70v gets pretty much the same heat on the bottom and nobody seems to be complaining. I think it all started with one person saying that the z63a can cook eggs on the bottom and this is what you get. THere are no heat issue on either the z63a or the w3v. This thread is ridiculous. All it did is cause problems and forced both my self and every other reseller to defend and perfectly good product which has no heat issues. Guys you need to look at this objectively. The z63a harddrive heats up the same as many other notebooks with a variant of about 5% depending on notebook and drive manufacturer. All your doing now is steering people away from a very nice product. Your drive has a 3 year warranty. Leace it alone already. If the drive breaks its covered. End of story.

Don't get me wrong Geared, I too entirely agree that the heat issue (whether it be an issue or not) is respectively normal in a powerhouse notebook such as the W3V. That's why I didn't initially say anything about the notebook "overheating". Rather, my intention was only to find a place for improvement, and to try something different.
Just to clear up, I searched well over 2 months before purchasing the W3V. Needless to say, I am more than completely satisfied with every aspect of the notebook itself, inside and out. My only issue is the inverted Fn + Ctrl keys. The W3V is simply put the perfect combination of light-weight + mainstream in a notebook. I'm hoping to write a review for mine pretty soon, and am giving myself a few days to adjust to the laptop and get more familiarized.
I do however believe that there's always room for improvement, which is why I'm still looking for alternative cooling solutions. Whether it be in a desktop or a notebook, the cooler, the better!

Well versed. I agree

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing someone who had a special, small fan for the HD casing on the Z70v to vent out some of the heat. I know poking holes into it wouldn't do much either.
