    Hey guys,
so i've had my w3v for about three months now and i'm loving it. i t still continues to turn heads and amaze people. There's one thing that bothers me though. The palm rest area has developed these dark cloudy circles that look really bad. Has anyone come up with a way to remedy this?

Whenever I'm in my dorm, I hook up a keyboard. Otherwise, I think you can buy some touch up paint, but it may be tough to match the exact hue and glitter of the original color.

I have exactly the same issue with mine & it's only on the left, so only use wireless keyboard now. This and the soft sound output are the main/only 2 issue i have with the w3v. :(

    Oily hands?

The sound can be remedied if you go to Start -> Control Panel -> Sound Effect Manager

There turn everything up to +12dB then try your volume.. it is a huge difference and a feature/utility many people overlook with their W3V.

I was too upset about the sound until someone told me about this feature.

Not sure if i would classify it as "normal" wear and tear because mine look like a ghostly impression of my palm. Kind of reminds me of the Shroud of Turin.

yes, i wouldn't call this normal wear and tear either. it was first noticeable only on the left side but now both sides are pretty bad. it looks fine if you look at it at 90 degrees but its is quite noticeable from normal typing position. actually i can now see the same kinda effect on the space bar where i usually keep my thumb and and the "j" key. it seems like the material is highly sensitive. Either that, or my hands are really dirty or something. hehe.

On the keyboard...THAT'S inevitable, since keyboard wear will always happen; it's just a matter of how much you use it and how often. My keys are slowly starting to get shiny too... but not that bad yet.

As for the palmrests...it's best if you can avoid resting your palms/wrists on them while you sweat, since a small percentage of the population has acidic sweat; also, our sweat is salty...and that wears down the paint too.

I kept hearing of this problem so I left my stickers on.

I wonder if i'll still get it.

You'll probably get it on the right side...since there's not a huge sticker covering it like there is on the left side.

actually everyone's sweat and body oils are slightly acidic - it helps defend us from foreign microbes as they cant survive on the skin. yes i know none of you care but its finals week and biology is on my mind

I suppose...but some of us have skin that's much more acidic than others - so acidic, that some jewelry can lose its shine in a matter of days/weeks!

It's true -- I'm an artist, and the oils from my hands corrode my tools much more than humidity in the atmosphere.

One solution I can recommend is to wipe down your palm rest at the end of every session. Even if it's not sweaty or if you don't notice any oil on the palmrest, they're there. Wipe it off with a shaggymac, etc. or even with a plain old napkin. That should help guard against future corrosion, although any damage done is there for good (unless you repaint -- and if you're really worried about it, give it a coat of automotive clearcoat. :) It's super expensive, but if you're that worried about how your 'puter looks.......)
