Hey guys my w3v has a weird problem i was hoping someone could help with. When I type, there is a clear rattle coming from under the right palmrest area. If I tap the right palmrest the rattling is really apparent. I have checked all the screws on the bottom and they are all tight - indeed it seems like the rattling is coming from inside the machine, inside the palmrest somewhere. any ideas what this could be and how i could fix it? it is pretty annoying to say the least. as i type this it rattles with every keystroke and especially with keys on the right side. thanks for any and all help.

The PC card slot is under the right side of the right hand palm rest. You can easily pull out the plastic dummy card and check if there is anything loose inside the slot.

If this reveals nothing, you can remove the hard disc drive and look for anything loose in that area.

good point, i forgot to mention that I have pulled out the pc card dummy as well as the memory card dummy and nothing is loose in that area. is it difficult to remove the hard disk and put it back in?

You need to remove one screw and then prise the cover off with a screwdriver (lift up near the screw location). The ribbon connector for the HDD is a push fit into a socket (it is held in place by a foam pad on the cover). Carefully pull the connector out of the socket and then you can lift the HDD out.

There used to be dismantling instructions for the Z63A / W3A (same HDD arrangement as the W3V) at a link in the Asus FAQ thread, but last time I looked the document had disappeared (send me an email address if you want a copy).

You definitly have a dodgy laptop, I'd ring Asus.
I say this because my W3V is nothing like that, it's completely solid when on a fixed surface. The typing is fluid...

well its weird -it never used to do this. and it happens about 80 percent of the time while typing. it just sounds like something is loose in there and rattling. i really cant send it in as im using this at school for pretty much everything. the sound is as if something as simple as a screw is loose but it is definately coming from inside the palm rest area and is definately not one of the exterior screws. thanks for the help thus far

Could it be the spinning hard drive?

Well, if it is a loose screw then it might be covered. If you call them they will probably tell you to send it back. But if you can do it yourself, do it. If there is nothing there to void the warranty like the sticker, then I would do it myself. Only because I wouldn't want to have to mail it in to get the work done.
