Hi guys, I'm a happy user of the W3V and I would like to buy an additional 512 MB ram. My W3V already has a DDR2 512 400Mhz (its not 533Mhz) ram, so is it advisable to get a DDR2 512 533Mhz ram?

Any compatibility problems with 400Mhz ram and 533 Mhz ram?

And what about dual channaling? Does it really have an effect on speed? (my guess is that it's pretty much unnoticable)

I'm pretty confused over DDR and DDR2 ram....coz in my country it seems like they don't seem to sell DDR2 ram at 400 Mhz (or perhaps its the same as DDR ram).....to give you a better picture...it is listed like that in the catalogue...

    SODIMM NOTBOOK
    DDR PC3200/400
DDR2 PC4200/533 <---this one's cheaper too (both are cosair rams)

Lastly, what brand of ram is good? any reccomendations? I've heard some stuff bout kingston so i'll think i'll avoid it...even though i'm using it on my desktop. Anyone heard of A-DATA brand ram? I'm only aware of kingston crucial cosair and to some extend infedion

Hmm, you have PC3200 ram in your w3v?

    Doesn't the w3v come with a PC4200 stick of 512?

Dual channel is almost unoticable as you mentioned, the results are just barely there.

As for brands, all should work, so in the end, it's just brand and cost.

All all North American based models have a 512mb DDR2 533 stick in them.... that is 100% across the board, since the very first shipment. Internationally though they very well could have used DDR2 400........... but they could NOT have used regular old DDR.

Nah ...W3V is shipped with different specs in different countries....I'm not from the US or Canada so....

Anyway is there a DDR 2 PC3200 or does all PC3200 come in DDR only?

I heard that the pins are different for DDR and DDR2 slots...i think i'm quite right on this..

A-data....mm i donno it just feels cheap (it is cheap anyway ahhaa)....anyway if there's a ram problem ,will it be shown immediately...or do u have to run a stress test to confirm?...

Oh can someone pls answer my question regarding the compatibility of 400Mhz and 533 Mhz ram ? Justin anyone?

There's no sense in getting pc3200 as the notebook will take the pc4200 ddr2..... and they're both about the same price. I don't think we've ever tried a ddr stick in a ddr2 mobo.... but other people say it doesn't work.

Not sure what you mean about compatibility, but I'd suggest Corsairs 512mb / 1gb DDR2 533 200 pin so-dimms...... that's what we've tested, use and sell..... also since we sell it, a lot of people on the forum have it and can comment on it as well. Kingston also makes a nice DDR2 stick.

Since my first stick is running at 400Mhz , will the second stick running at 533Mhz cause problems?...crashes and things like that? Or will it run as per normal only that the 533Mhz stick will run at 400Mhz?

I don't think the DDR2 ram will work, they are different.

grab a program called CPU-Z, it should be able to tell you all the information about your RAM:

Also, does anyone else get the weird, unreadable manufacturer and serial number from the stock stick of 512MB of ram using CPU-z?

Mine does....it reads like yours FFFFFFFF all the way heh....

Anyway can someone answer my question? can u use a 533Mhz ram together with a 400Mhz ram?

The 533Mhz ram will then be clocked at 400Mhz...at least if i'm correct.....tell me...???

first of all, in CPU-z, does it say DDR2-SDRAM? if it does, then 533Mhz should work. If it doesn't, then the DDR2 module will not physically fit (different pin sizes)
