Are you able to play CSS without having black strips on the sides of the screen? I'm curious because I've just today orderd and Asus W3V
I doubt you could get that resoulution because it's a widescreen. Do other resolutions work? -
yes you get the black strips on the side unless you select the stretch screen option, but I am pretty sure that I used to be able to play CS in wide screen mode.
-
It does work at widescreen resolutions. I have it (cs 1.6) on a 1280 x 800 native (i have a compaq x1000). You just go to display settings in cs and tick the widescreen box then set the resolution to 1280 x 768 - i think thats how i did it.

theres a wide screen box to click inside CS? or Steam options? For me when I go into CS and go to option>Video theres just a drop down list of resolutions and I dont see my widescreen one on there.

Does CSS look really good in widescreen mode? or does it look stretch-assed?
I'm sure there's a way to set it outside of CSS, anyone heard about the fullscreen mode thing?
e.g. "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
Maybe you could change that to widescreen 1? Just a guess -
Stretched? No, because those widescreen modes are actual widescreen resolutions and not just a stretched image of a normal 4:3 aspect resolution.
tony...make sure you set the video mode to widescreen mode if you have a widescreen lcd. If the max resolution you get is not your max resolution, then try reinstalling your drivers.

Where do I set it to widescreen mode, I am running CS 1.6 on steam is wide screen resolution even possible? Also I updated my graphics driver and nothing

I'm not sure about 1.6, but in CS:S, there is an option, as stated above, in the video menu where you can change the settings. Set it to 16:10 aspect ratio, not the standard 4:3. If it is set to 4:3, you can only get standard aspect resolutions. \
And no - CSS doesn't get stretched in widescreen. It and HL2 are one of the few game that actually have a dedicated widescreen resolution setting. -
Cool, I bet it looks real nice in widescreen, you can see more in FPS view that way. Sweet, my W3V comes this friday, can't wait to LAN it up to my other PC with CSS, its gonna be great!
Does anyone know if the following have widescreen mode?:
Battlefield 2
Battle for Middle Earth I or II
Age of Empires III
Brothers in Arms
Call of Duty (All of them)
Far Cry Instincts
and if you like those games then could you list others, FPS or RPG -
Tony maybe you have your video adapter settings in CS set to software mode??? I'm pretty sure that's it or something is seriously wrong with your software installation.
Those settings we mentioned are in plain sight, so if you can't see it then I'm pretty sure you're in software mode and your drivers are not installed correctly.
Change your video mode to Opengl as Direct3d looks horrible for CS.
Cheers,
Hope that helps, Mike -
I think its because I am running just CS and not CS:S maybe I was wrong when I thought CS 1.6 on steam had wide screen support
-
No you are right. I play CS 1.6 and it has the widescreen mode, I don't play CS:S.
Dude you're doing something wrong~!
Gimme remote control of your computer I will fix it
I don't get it. You reinstalled it and everything, reinstalled drivers and you're still getting no option for widescreen support?????
You lie~!!!! haha, try it again man, it should work.
Cheers,
Mike -
I have posted about this problem when I first got my W3V several months ago. I have never been able to play CS 1.6 in widescreen. The video mode should have 2 options: normal and widescreen. However, this menu option is "greyed out" and is stuck on normal. I have also searched widescreengamingforum.com, this is the thread I came across:

Well that was my post in widescreen forum, anyway the conclusion was that HL mods (CS1.6, DoD, TFC, HL) doesnt support 1280x768 resolution. Its old HL engine doesnt. Whereas for HL2 mods (DoD:source, CS:source.. etc) does support 1280x768 resolution under widescreen option.
Thus currently im only playing CS:S due to its nice grahpics =D and also DoD the normal one with 2 bars at the sides running 1024x768. =D -
So how do HL2, CS:S and other mods of like engine perform on the W3V? If it performs well, did you add more memory to your machine? I'm currently running the stock 512megs.
I hope my CS1.6 skills carry over well to CS:S
Thanks! -
I've added an additional 512mb memory to the empty module in my W3v. without a minimum of 1gig, playing HL mods and other popular games would be frustrating (There will be sudden lag, or always lag, and lower graphics setting) =D And it makes the fragmentation of ur HDD worst at a faster pace, thus the system will slow down within a shorter period of time.
Therefore u should... u must upgrade to a 1gig ram in order to bring the full potential of w3v =D
